About Us
How We Met

We met in Boston, at Yawkey (aka Lansdowne) train station in May 2017 on our way home. Alex was coming home from work at the Wyss Institute and Katie was returning from a laborious day of clothes shopping on Newbury St in honor of finishing her finals that year at MCPHS University. When we got off the train in West Newton, we learned that not only were we walking in the same direction home but we lived on the same block. We became friendly, but Katie did not frequent the station as much because of summer break. In the Fall of that year, we went on our first date for Ice Cream at Lizzy’s and a movie on Moody St in Waltham. We learned that we both moved to the US around the same time, but from Portugal and Ukraine respectively. Since then, Alex has been working on his PhD in Immunology at UMass Medical School and Katie has been enjoying her role at the Marcus Institute for Aging Research while pursuing her MBA.
Proposal

In August 2022, we traveled to Normandy to explore WW2 memorials and medieval European history. Alex proposed to Katie after a seafood dinner in a magical fishing port town called Port-en-Bessin-Huppain, where we watched the sunset together. Katie accepted the proposal but said to “keep ‘em coming.” Some say he is still proposing to this day.
