Our Story

8th Grade Dance Dates to Forever Best Friends

The year 2009 was a long time ago, somehow. Cell phones still had buttons and watching Netflix meant ordering DVDs through the mail. It was also when John and Julie met. They were in seventh grade. Both played musical instruments in school – Julie on violin in the orchestra, John the baritone horn in band. The two groups eventually joined for rehearsal, bringing John and Julie together and beginning the Campagna-Mystkowski story. The two engaged in small talk at first, then developed a friendship when they shared more classes together. A year passed. In eighth grade, John asked Julie to be his date at the school dance. His mom would pick Julie up in her “pimped out” minivan, he said. Was that a promise or a threat? Time would tell it was a good thing. They remained friends in high school, each knowing one had a crush on the other but too afraid to make the first move. Enough was enough. Julie cleverly observed the time John’s bus arrived at school each morning and, not-so-coincidentally, positioned herself nearby. She continued this more frequently until they began morning walks around school. Weekday mornings were spent talking and laughing together until March 19, 2012. It was on that fateful day that John asked Julie to see the lackluster blockbuster “John Carter.” The movie flopped. Thankfully, John and Julie’s tale is more interesting than Disney’s character on Mars. They attended prom, graduated high school, and navigated college. Julie went on to Physician Assistant school and they each established their careers. On March 14, 2022, five days shy of their tenth anniversary, John proposed to Julie at Yaki Point in Grand Canyon National Park. Now, John and Julie are excited to continue their story with their guests. Everything from then to now has led to this day. They lost friends and family along the way, but they raised a good boy – their dog, Finley – and the couple continue traveling as much as possible. They look forward to celebrating together with their favorite people.
