We both went to Texas Tech University at the same time, graduated the same year, and had many of the same friends. However, we never met during those five years. It was four years later, in 2017, that we met on a fall night after a Red Raider game day at Cafe J. Ali had just moved back to Lubbock after living and working in Fort Worth and had a few friends in town for the game. Thanks to Ali's friend Nathan and my sorority sister Elizabeth, who are now engaged as well (yay!), the two of us met for the very first time. We had our first date a couple of weeks later and we've been inseparable ever since.
When we decided to go to Italy in 2019 for my 30th birthday, I had no idea what was to come. After spending a day in Pisa, we took the train down to Rome to explore the eternal city on my birthday. We ended our day at the Vatican with a romantic dinner at La Biga, where we sat on the rooftop overlooking the Colosseum in all of its glowing evening glory. After eating more than we could handle, we decided to take a stroll around the Colosseum before calling it a night. Halfway around, and without another soul in sight, Ali stopped me. He took both of my hands, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. The next week was a dream as we explored the magical sites that Italy has to offer, not as boyfriend and girlfriend, but as future husband and wife.
