Question

What's the weather like in Merida?

Answer

HOT and humid! The early afternoon high temperature will be around 97 F. On the wedding day, it’ll be high-80s during the ceremony, cooling off to 80 as we celebrate into the night.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Thursday mezcal tasting: casual Friday swimming: bathing suit and a (hotel) towel Friday evening White Party: White, off-white, ivory, nudes, khaki pants are good (Secret event: no special attire needed) Wedding day: “tropical formal” attire. Women: long dresses made for dancing with bold, bright colors. Recommend block heels or wedges as the reception area will be on grass. Men: summer color palette pants and jacket, definitely no tie, go big on color! Question

Is there Uber in Merida?

Answer

Yes and no. Yes, Ubers will get you anywhere *in* the city but they’re less reliable traveling to the outskirts. At the airport, Uber is banned but it’s easy to catch a taxi. As you exit customs there are counters with taxi & shuttle companies. Should cost 300-400 MXN. We have group transportation to and from the Courtyard Marriott for the distant events: swimming on Friday morning (75 minutes by car) and the Saturday wedding (45 minutes).

Question

How do I get to the Events?

Answer

Thursday welcome drinks: 5 minute Uber ride or a 20 minute walk Friday morning cenotes: we have shuttles leaving from the Courtyard Marriott at 9:00, 9:20 and 9:40 am and returning around 3 pm. Friday evening White Party (dinner): 15 minute Uber ride Saturday wedding: shuttles leave at 3:20 pm from the Courtyard Marriott. Return shuttles leave at 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30 during the night.

Question

Tell me about currency, credit cards and tipping

Answer

Mexican pesos are 18 to the dollar. Credit cards are widely accepted in Merida, with the exception of taxis. We recommend withdrawing 1,000 pesos ($60) from an airport ATM to pay for a taxi (~400 pesos). Airport ATMs have the worst FX rate so if you want to withdraw a lot of cash, we’d suggest any ATM in downtown Mérida. A standard restaurant tip is 10-15%.

Question

Do cell phones work in Mexico?

Answer

U.S. phones work in Mexico. Some carriers give free service and others charge a ~$10/day fee. For messaging, WhatsApp works better than SMS texts. Coverage may be spotty at remote events like the cenotes and wedding day.

Question

What do I need to know for the Hora Loca?

Answer

Hora Loca, Spanish for "the crazy hour", is a tradition in some Latin countries of an early morning 'party within a party'. Since it's October, we'll celebrate it with a Halloween or Dia de los Muertos theme. So, bring a Halloween costume on Saturday! (Pro tip: choose something simple that doesn't require hours of latex make-up.) We recommend bringing a small garmet bag. At the wedding, there will be a costume valet when you arrive and changing rooms for later.

Question

What do I need to know for the Secret Event?

Answer

It's a secret! We are bringing the event to YOU — no transportation or special attire needed.

Question

Is tap water safe to drink in Merida?

Answer

NO. All our events will have bottled or purified water and the ice will be purified.
