Here is the video of Josh’s proposal to Coral! She was under the assumption that we were visiting a friends house to help babysit. He surprised her with a backyard full of family, friends, and loved ones! When it dawned on her what was about to happen, Coral was overwhelmed with tears of joy, and tears from the sunscreen slowly burning her eyes. It was such a beautiful and memorable moment!

Our Love Story

From Manila to Los Angeles

2014 - Joshua and Coral met back in 2014 during an InterVarsity Christian Fellowship trip to Manila, Philippines. They went to learn more about God's heart for the urban slum communities, and to learn about God's hope for the Filipino people! It was a powerful summer that has forever shaped the way they view themselves and the world around them! #MNLGUT14 2015 - The summer when Coral stayed in San Diego for a month because her grandpa was on hospice and later ended up passing away. During that time, Coral was reconnecting with Josh, and texting daily, because she didn't really know many friends in san diego and wanted to hangout. For some reprieve from the family grief, Coral and Josh met up at UCSD near a picturesque waterfall for a lovely picnic lunch. (Neither of them thought it was a date, but everyone else says it definitely was a pre-date). When Coral's parents' picked her up afterwards, her dad rushed out of the car to talk to Josh. Ted said sternly to Josh, "You'd better take good care of my daughter! Promise me!" and a confused Josh said "yes of course sir, I'll take good care of her!". (In the moment, Coral was so embarrassed, but looking back cherishes this moment forever!) 2016 - When Coral started doing full time ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in 2016, Josh was one of the friends that supported and partnered with the ministry to reach college students! 2018 - They kept in touch occasionally over the years, and Josh even drove up from San Diego to Orange County in 2018 for one of Coral's fundraising events! She was very surprised to see that he accepted the invitation, and wondered if there could possibly be anything there? But alas, they were just friends. 2019 - One of the times when Josh was visiting Los Angeles, Coral also wanted to meet up with some of her ministry partners to say hello. Coral ended up joining Josh and his friends Mike and Brittney for a Japanese Nissei parade event in Little Tokyo. (Little did Coral know, Mike was dropping hints to Josh about Coral!) 2020 - During the pandemic, Coral was online dating and it was a bummer. Around that time, Coral and Josh reconnected during a ministry partnership zoom dinner. Coral had offered to reconnect with folks via zoom, and Josh was one of few folks that accepted the invitation. A 30 min zoom dinner, turned into 3 hours of laughing, giggling, and having fun. Coral wondered if there could be potential here, and after a few months, she asked Josh out on a date, if he was indeed moving to Los Angeles. After a rocky first date, the 2nd was was a hit and Coral felt like he could possibly be the one, and the rest was history!
