Ben and Jo met fourteen years before their wedding date as high school classmates. A year and a half of friendship formed a solid foundation before they became high school sweethearts. When Jo asked Ben if they were going to be boyfriend and girlfriend, Ben responded "I thought we already were." They officially made their debut the next day at junior prom. In the years since high school, Ben and Jo have loved and supported each other as they grew into the people they are today.

During their annual trip to the Boundary Waters, Ben and Jo took a day paddle to an island on Lake One. While there, Ben snuck up behind Jo and her first thought was that he was going to pretend to push her in. Luckily, a different kind of push forward was in store and they spent a couple of hours in paradise with only each other (and one goose) before sharing the news with friends and family. Ben could not have picked a better place to pop the question; the Boundary Waters is one of their favorite places on Earth!
