Iconic. Must see. Christ the Redeemer. Both a humbling and exciting activity for everyone. Always a possibility of seeing monkeys here! Kid/ ADA friendly. This is something you want to make sure you plan for a sunny day or wait for the clouds to fade off. You can purchase tickets ahead of time but be sure not to take a taxi to the top, use the tram that is provided with ticket.
Easily the most special place in the world for us. It is Jordan's favorite place in Rio and Bernardo proposed here on July 16, 2023. The old fort is absolutely stunning and there are even views of the Christ. The grounds are jungly and filled with monkeys as well. The palace itself requires a ticket but to roam the grounds is free and can easily fill an afternoon followed by a meal in the Jardmin Botanico neighborhood.
Bernardo's favorite peak in Rio. This is a kid/ADA friendly activity and has some of the best views of the city. Take the gondola to two hills, possibly see monkeys and grab a drink or snack.
If you are interested in hiking to the top of the second brother (the taller of two peaks pictured) let us know and we can hire you a tour guide that first took us to the top. This hike is Jordan's favorite thing to do in Rio. Not necessarily kid friendly as you do have to taxi through the Vidigal favella to get to the start of the hike. Easily the most breathtaking experience in the city. The address provided is for the Sheraton hotel where you can get dropped of or meet the guide.
During our engagement trip we did a day long excursion to Angra Dos Reis and did some island hopping. For about $50 per person you get transit, lunch, drinks, boat tour of four islands. My only regret was that I wish I would have stayed at least one night here. There are plenty of travel agencies who provide this trip and we highly recommend. You can swim with fish and experience very traditional culture.
Standing guard over the southern shores of Copacabana Beach and affording views of both Copacabana and Ipanema, Copacabana Fort is a former military base. Built in the 20th century, the fortress now houses a military museum and historic artifacts, but the main draw is the fort’s two cafés with sweeping beach views We really enjoyed walking the grounds and grabbing a bite to eat at one of the many cafes inside the fort along the water.
According to Bernardo there is only one stadium and one team that should be seen while in Rio. Watching Flamengo play at Maracanã stadium is one of the loudest, most passionate and exhilarating sporting events I have ever been too. We will update when the schedule comes out and you will likely see us there!
Leblon is known for its beach, one of the city’s trendiest, most tranquil stretches of sand. Inland, leafy streets have restaurants ranging from cozy French bistros to lively steakhouses, plus mellow bars for beers and caipirinhas. Shopping options include designer fashion boutiques and Shopping Leblon, a modern mall. Rua Dia Ferreira is our favorite street to wander and grab a drink or bite to eat.
Brazil has a long history of horse racing that dates back to the early 1800s. Horse racing delivers a unique experience that has enthralled Brazilians for years, from high-stakes betting to elegant dress. Races are on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
