Chicago Pride is the day after our wedding, Sunday June 30th! If you're staying through the weekend, this is a notoriously iconic Chicago event with tons of amazing musical and drag performances. The parade begins at 11 a.m. at Montrose and Broadway, and continues south along Broadway, then Halsted, east along Belmont to Broadway, then south to Diversey. You can reach these locations by taking the Red and Brown line trains.
If you plan on staying through the weekend, this is the most quintessentially Oak Park activity. We are famous for our neighborhood of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. If you get a good tour guide, they'll give you not only the history behind his groundbreaking post-modern design, but all the grisly rumors around his controversial background.
This is our favorite spot to go on dates and see movies. If you happen to plan a dinner & a movie, Lake Street Theater is close to a TON of excellent spots to eat and shop, so make sure you have time to explore.
This is the best place in the area for a coffee, pastry, or sandwich. Fun fact, Broken tart is responsible for providing our wedding cake and desserts so if you like what you have, pop back over and check out this perfect little morning gem for beverages & snacks!
Poor Phil's is a classic joint for seafood and beer lovers. This place is right around the corner from our wedding venue, and conveniently located below the Carleton Hotel, equipped with one of the best summer patios in Oak Park. We'll probably end up here after the wedding for a final hoorah.
We come here regularly and start with about 20 nigiri (be sure to order 2 pieces of otoro and 2 pieces of scallop nigiri, you'll thank us later) and about 2-3 rolls (the Sen Sushi roll is our favorite). Even better, try to grab one of the two spots in front of the window or at the sushi bar, this place doesn't take reservations and is a little small so be sure to get there early.
Citrine was the first place we dined at after moving to the area, so we'll always be fans for that reason. They have a great outdoor patio, and are located right on Oak Park Avenue, so after/before you eat you can check out all the other cute shops down the street.
Grape Leaves might not look like much from the outside, but I'm telling you, the food is absolutely out of this world. The cuisine is Moroccan/Lebanese, and is our town's best kept secret. If you dine here, make sure you order the Moroccan Cigars, or just get a sample plate of all of their appetizers because it's a slam dunk.
Crepas Culichi is Oak Park's newest brunch spot. If you're looking for an over-the-top, princess themed rococo fantasy meal, look no further. You can actually order a cotton candy mimosa, and most things come doused in glitter or with a giant cookie. Highly recommend.
This book store is locally owned, and always has really great picks on display with writers of all different backgrounds. There is a whole other side of the store dedicated to art/design/music books (you know, the huge coffee table ones?) and you actually can't leave without finding something that speaks to you.
Pop in here to peruse a variety of vintage toys, novelty gifts, and silly gag stuff that you probably don't need but will walk out with anyway. It's in the heart of town and near a bunch of other cool shops, so start here and work your way around Lake street.
