The route to Quadra Island is through Campbell River on Vancouver Island:
Driving:
For those driving from the continent you will need to pre-book your route to Campbell River, usually getting to Vancouver Island by BC Ferries and driving up the east coast of the island. You can get a BC Ferry from Tsawassen or Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo or a Black Ball Ferry from Port Angeles, Washington to Victoria, BC. All options will require reservations! It is a 1.75 hour drive from Nanaimo to Campbell River.
Flying: Campbell River is the closest airport. There are connecting flights from Vancouver International, but they are infrequent.
Campbell River to Quadra Island:
Once you arrive in Campbell River there is a quick ferry across the water to Quadra running hourly-ish. It cannot be pre-booked. During peak times it may be a wait, come prepared with a book and snacks and try to avoid coming on the last ferry of the day. See the BC Ferries website.
