We met serendipitously at a New Years Eve party in NYC. At the time, Dan was living in Houston, Texas and I was living in Atlanta, Georgia so we doubted that anything serious could come out of this one night meeting. However, the whole month of January we continued to talk every night on the phone and during one conversation Dan surprised me by letting me know he had booked his flight to come visit me in Atlanta. That one visit turned into a long distance relationship for the next two years. Finally, after traveling over 106,594 miles for visits and trips, Dan moved to NYC. Although our long distance relationship was very hard, we couldn't have done it without the support of our amazing parents and very encouraging friends. For anyone who has been in a long distance relationship, you don't do it unless it's worth it. As you can probably tell, we can both confirm with big smiles on our face that it definitely was - Jess I was in New York City visiting my friends for New Years as was a yearly tradition. We all went out to dinner and about 10 minutes later, a group of girls from Dartmouth came in to join us and one had brought her very beautiful friend whose name was Jess. She sat catty-corner from me at the table and I made an amazing first impression by asking her if Bronxville was a part of the Bronx. We continued to talk and both bonded over our love of college football and the fact that we went to college in different regions from where we grew up. At the party, I finally got to re-unite with her and we got to talk some more one on one which was really nice. I managed to keep myself by her long enough to time out the midnight kiss. I luckily got her number and continued to text her all the time for the next few weeks. Those texts turned to phone calls and finally I decided I had to visit her. I booked a flight on a hope and a prayer then asked her if I could visit. Luckily she said yes! -Dan
Dan and I had planned a weekend vacation at my summer house in the Hamptons. I thought nothing of this trip because we both love visiting Quogue to escape to the beach and completely unwind. Since my birthday was coming up Dan had planned a photoshoot for us at our favorite board walk near the beach which was special but actually not a sign because we have (guiltily) scheduled these intimate sappy photoshoots before. It was the royal wedding that weekend so in an effort not to steal prince Harry and Megan Markle's thunder he surprised me by proposing on that Sunday. We began walking down the boardwalk taking pictures and about halfway down Dan stopped at a tree and started saying the most meaningful and loving things to me. I froze and I knew this was it. Everything was a complete blur and I totally forgot I had said yes (and so did Dan) , but our photographer assured both of us I said, "Yes!!!" Afterwards we went down the road to our favorite restaurant Dockers to grab a celebratory drink and then headed back to my hometown Bronxville to have dinner with my family. It was the best day of my life. - Jess
