To our lovely wedding guests, We’ve had to make the difficult decision to postpone our wedding at this time, because your health and safety is our number one priority. We’re lucky enough to have set a perfect new date, August 27th, 2021 We hope you are still able to join us, as we’ve planned what we think will be a pretty amazing evening.

The story of how we met is, well, complicated. And the story of our relationship is a journey as well! In 2009, Jess started attending the University of Louisville, where Matt was a Sophomore at the time. We definitely met at some point during that first semester, but neither of us remember the official moment. Our friendship over the next 4 years consisted of goofing off together at parties, and our friend groups hung out almost exclusively with one another. Hanging out as friends almost every weekend allowed us to get to know one another very well, and in 2012 the stars aligned at a time when we both happened to be available and we started to see each other as more than just friends. Everything was great, and we were both excited to see if this feeling could blossom into love...but that’s when our story gets complicated. Almost right after the sparks began, Matt was offered a job in Chicago that he simply couldn’t pass up. To be honest, both of us were unsure how we could make this work. We weren’t even officially dating yet, and now we would be 5 hours away from one another. How could we start a new relationship from separate states!?... But despite Jess being in the middle of her hardest year of undergrad, applying to graduate school and trying to figure out her next steps, Matt also trying to succeed in a new job in a new city, we were able to continue having the most fun with our time together. We made things official on March 29th, 2013 in Gatlinburg, TN. Matt drove down to see Jess every other weekend, often leaving before the sun would rise on Monday morning, to ensure he made it into the office on time. Jess would take the MegaBus up to Chicago, finishing homework on the bus to ensure we could enjoy our time together over the weekend.

When Jess moved to Northern Kentucky to pursue her Masters degree, things got a little tougher trying to juggle a long distance relationship, a full-time job, and a full-time masters program, but once again we made it work! Little did Jess know, Matt was working hard applying to jobs that would allow us to be closer together. We had only been dating for about a year, but Matt was ready to be closer, and when he got a job in Louisville, KY in 2014 (yes, the city that Jess had just moved away from…) we were thrilled to finally be living in the same state! Skip ahead a few years, Jess is preparing to graduate, and she lands an amazing job opportunity in Cincinnati, OH; essentially sealing the deal that if we want to live in the same city, Matt might need to make ANOTHER move...and well, that’s just what he did. After another few months of job searching and interviews, in September of 2015 Matt moved to Northern Kentucky, and we lived in our first apartment in Fort Thomas, KY. You would think we might have some normalcy at this point (but I’m sure you all know where this story goes….) After about 3 months of a sanity, not being long distance for the first time ever, and both starting new jobs, Jess got the LinkedIn message that changed our lives once again. When Jess began interviewing at Google, neither of us truly believed it would happen. We had made plans to get a puppy (because we clearly LOVE a challenge), and we decided to continue pursuing our puppy plans because if Jess didn’t get the job, well we would certainly need something to cheer us up! Well, jokes on us, because in April 2016 we not only got an 8 week old puppy but one week later Jess found out she got the job. In May 2016, we made our biggest move yet (together this time!) to California with our new puppy, Brodie, by our side.

After a few years of getting used to our new home, Matt decided it was time for the next big life change...and he proposed on February 21st, 2019 on our patio at sunset. In sum, since we began dating in 2013, we have had a combination of 11 different jobs, have lived in a combination of 4 cities and 3 states, 2 graduations, 5+ apartments, and over 2 years spent as long distance. We may not remember when we met, but our journey has proven that no matter what life throws our way, we’re ready to tackle it together, and that’s our own personal love story.
