Mahon & around

Mahon is the charming capital of Menorca, marked by small alleyways, old churches, colourful markets and a stunning harbour and a restaurant-lined promenade RESTAURANTS: Burdell de Foc, Ses Forquilles VISIT: Hauser & Wirth gallery on Isla del Rey (can be reached from the port of Mahon. You can book dinner at the restaurant Cantina) Centre d’Art I d’Historia Hernandez Sanz at Ca n’Oliver (mansion which belonged to one of the most powerful families of Mahon) Es Castell area nearby, cute little harbour with shops and restaurants BEACHES: Cala Mesquida (6km from Mahon, sandy beach with clear waters. You can have lunch at Cap Roig) Es Grau (serene and unspoiled beach just outside Mahon, surrounded by a nature reserve with clear waters and a peaceful setting)

South East (close to Mahon)

RESTAURANT: Es Moli de Foc for dinner (Sant Climent) BEACH: Binisafua cove for swimming and lunch at Club Nautico Binisafua Binidali (very small beach, but you can have drinks at the Binidali beach bar)

Cala en Porter & South

RESTAURANTS: Es Bruc or San Tomas for lunch BARS: Club Menorca (casual), Cova d'en Xoroi (club)

Fornells & North

Fornells is a small town which used to be a fishing village RESTAURANTS: Isabella (also good for sunset drinks), Ricardo Riera for ice cream VISIT: Mirador Torre lookout point BEACHES: Cala Pregonda (distinctive rose-gold sands & pink cliffs with aquamarine water. But few facilities & 30 minutes walk from car park, so best set off before it gets hot. You can have lunch at Binimel.la nearby) Platja de Cavalleria (stretch of red & gold sand backed by clay cliffs, in a large sheltered bay)

Ciutadella and South West

One of the larger cities of the island and very charming. Spend some time walking across the cobbled alleyways, shopping and having ice cream by the port RESTAURANTS: Pez Limón, Smoix, S’Amarador, Café Balear (lunch), Herbera Bakery VISIT: Palacio Olivar will give you a glimpse into aristocratic life in 17th-century Menorca BEACHES: Cala Galdana: Stretch of red & gold sand backed by clay cliffs, with snorkeling & swimming in a sheltered bay. Mirador Sa Punta lookout point nearby Cala Mitjana: very close to Cala Galdana, with a long stretch of sand and shallow calm waters Cala en Turqueta - Popular and busy but beautiful beach with turquoise waters and sandy white shoreline
