The couple met like any other cliche lesbian couple, in rugby. Jessica had been playing for Raleigh Venom for two years and was starting her third season when Lauren joined in fall of 2016. The two played similar positions which had them regularly practicing with one another, but ironically neither of them can remember a single conversation they held. It wasn't until a year and a half later that Jessica found out that Lauren had a HUGE crush on her and thus meant she ignored her and went out of her way NOT to talk to her. Lauren was in and out of rugby that season and this was Jessica's last season, so this was not the true beginning for the future Mrs. and Mrs. Fast forward a year and a half, Jessica's best friend, Adrienne, was turning 30. Jessica and Adrienne's wife, Lindsey, had planned a surprise party at the Hibernian, Raleigh Rugby's sponsor bar, and Lauren was not invited. However a mutual friend was and convinced Lauren to be her guest to the party. After cake and as things died down, right about 9pm, the two had their first actual conversation about the phone trivia game, HQ which featured a trivia game every night right at 9pm. They bonded over their horrific aptitude for random trivia and the rest was history. The typical sequence followed- Girl chases girl (Jessica chased Lauren), girl chases someone else (Lauren chased someone else), girl doesn't give up (Jessica), girl stops pretending like she doesn't REALLY like girl (Lauren adored Jessica.. duh), and the two fell in love, uhauled, and are now engaged.

Jess proposes to Lauren: A couple weeks into dating, Lauren lost a bet where she had to take photos with Jess at Duke Gardens (Lauren HATES photos of herself). Shortly after, Jess gifted Lauren a framed picture of the two of them on one of the Duke Gardens' bridges and this picture hung on Lauren's wall there after. Fast forward eight months, Jess tricked Lauren into supporting a friend at a "Single Lesbian Meetup Group" at Duke Gardens at 7am. Lauren, being as oblivious as she was, went to Duke Gardens, walked across the same bridge where that photo was taken only to glance down and see that exact framed photo sitting on the bridge. Behind the framed photo was a letter that Jess had written only weeks into dating confessing her love and her commitment to Lauren at such an early stage. Long story short, Jess was as hopelessly romantic as she could possibly get... Hiding under the bridge, with that stupid umbrella with Lauren's closest friends and family ready to pop out as Lauren read the letter. Lauren cried and said "Yes"... obviously. Lauren proposes to Jess: Lauren met Jess in San Francisco where Jess extended a business trip so the two could explore California. Lauren's plans to propose with beers under the iconic Golden Gate Bridge were foiled by poor weather and Jess's insistence on making the most of the trip by not "wasting time" trying to get an even better picture. The two had plans to go to Napa Valley and take some winery tours so all hope was not lost. Yet again, the perfect moment kept passing as Jess was clueless to any cues Lauren was giving to set up a romantic setting. The two played cards (so typical to their relationship) while sipping wine in a beautiful library of a winery, but still Jess kept missing cues. Ready to head back, Jess packed up, but Lauren not wanting to YET AGAIN miss a moment, awkwardly slid to one knee from a seated position pulling out a box made from a glued deck of cards holding the ring. You can guess what happened..
