After speaking with many of you about your travel plans and researching hotel options, we decided not to do a block of rooms at any particular hotel. There are fantastic AirBNB / VRBO options for larger groups and also a ton of great hotel options in San Diego. We have listed a few of our recommended locations that are centrally located, easy for rideshare services, and are cost effective.
Note: the beaches, airport, Seaworld, San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, and downtown + San Diego Bay are all very very close to each other so no option is bad for travel distance.
