A Special Shout Out to Nick from Nissan

This marriage is happening because of an overly talkative drunk guy who couldn’t figure out how to uber his date to the bar. No, really, it’s true. Our first date was a trainwreck of nerves and emotions. In retrospect, we laugh about our “meet cute” story, but in the moment it felt like it wasn’t going to happen. We met for the first time at Rocco's Tacos. Needless to say, I was very blunt with Jenna, overly so. We were having a serious conversation and I completely made the awful mistake of speaking my mind and not so tactfully, made her cry. My heart was in the right place, but I said all the wrong things. She stuck it out and wanted to be polite and finish the date with me. It all went downhill from there. After agreeing to take a walk with me and spend some more time getting to know each other, we closed down the mall and found ourselves outside of Bar Louie. This is where we met Nick. He saw us trying to find a table to sit at so we could finish out the night, and he motioned us over to take his table as if he were leaving. Except he didn’t. Unbeknownst to us, he had joined us as a third wheel on our date. After talking way too much, our very drunk new friend invaded our first date and asked us if we could figure out how to get his date there. At this point, the date had gotten very awkward, and I had to ask our new friend if he would excuse us because we were on our first date, and were trying to get to know each other. He was taken aback, impressed, apologized, and became my personal hype man for the rest of the evening. How I handled that situation and the absurd hilarity of it all, breaking the ice on how off the rails the date had gotten, is what earned me a second date.

After that, Jenna and I continued to see each other, realized we had the same sense of humor, same goals, desires, dreams, aspirations, and quite honestly, I’m still puzzled how the universe managed to make such a perfect person for my goofy self. I’ve learned not to ask questions and just accept the good in life. Jenna always challenges me, she keeps me in check, she keeps me honest, she encourages me to grow, and she has my back, no matter what. I can only dream of living up to what a great and wonderful person she is, how caring and kind, genuine, and loving - she is everything that I am not, and everything that I hope to be as a person. I am grateful for every moment, with her, and she has brought me happiness beyond my wildest dreams. I’d love it if everyone could share in even a small slice of the joy she brings me, and if so, the world would be a far better place. So thank you Jenna, I am grateful to you always, and I’m looking forward to our forever. I love you dearly, and I genuinely couldn’t be happier to share my life with you. And shout out to Nick from Nissan, for turning the most awkward date into a second chance, because had you not appeared as mysteriously as you left, we wouldn’t be here today.
