Getting to Mudgee
If you are traveling from Sydney it is around a three and a half hour drive. During this time you will pass through the world famous Blue Mountains, whose namesake comes from the blue ‘haze,’ which is given off by the eucalyptus gum that blanket the mountains.
If you are from the UK the thing that the blue mountains is famous for is the iconic three sisters sand stone plinths at Leura/Katoomba. These around a 10 minute detour from the main road.
Leura itself is a beautiful village worth some exploration. There is also countless lengths of hikes through the blue mountains.
Also extremely beautiful if you want a detour is the Megalong valley in Blackheath or the Capertree valley once you have passed the blue mountains. Both of these valleys are an out and back and cannot be added into your drive as an extension.
