Just a walk from the hotel is the gorgeous Brooklyn bridge waterfront with lots of places to sit and people watch. It’s also a great place to watch fireworks on the 4th (if you don’t mind a huge crowd).
Started by the Grimaldi family after it was turned into a chain, Juliana’s is the real deal for NY style pizza. There’s usually a line, so plan ahead.
A huge brewery that has a wide selection of drink and food plus an arcade.
The Brooklyn Museum has a wide array of art and a huge Egyptian collection.
Jana and Austin love to walk Hopper around Grand Army Plaza and into Prospect Park, which was designed by the same person who made Central Park. There’s a huge farmers market Saturday mornings.
If you’ve never been to NYC, you’ll definitely want to take the subway to Grand Central. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the city.

There are so many things to do and eat in Greenpoint—a historically Polish neighborhood where Jana’s distant relatives lived in the mid-1900s.
Right across the river from Dumbo is the Seaport district and the Financial District (FiDi) where you can find plenty of patio drinks and food. Check out Francus Tavern, which George Washington once ate at. Jana and Austin also love The White Horse Tavern near Austin’s office for cheap drinks.
You can take a ferry from Battery Park out to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island Museum. Jana really enjoyed finding her great, great grandma in the records there.
