Jake and Alyssa's story began at a mutual friend's house (who now happens to be in their wedding party - hey Paul!) and they got to know each other in the following weeks over text. They eventually went on a date in Ann Arbor in which Jake invited Alyssa to meet at his new house on State Street. However, a mix-up in Alyssa's navigation led her almost to Canada (No, she is not good at directions. Yes, she entered a State Street in Canada on her maps). Alyssa failed to mention her mistake as nerves were high and told Jake she was “running a little late," to which Jake believed that he was stood up on his date as she ended up being an hour and a half late. After a delayed arrival, Jake surprised her with a romantic first date – sushi (Alyssa’a favorite food), ice cream, and a picnic at a live music concert in downtown Ann Arbor. It was the most perfect first date, and Alyssa ended the night by writing in her journal that she hopes she marries Jake - and she sure was right! About a week later, Jake surprised Alyssa again by letting her know that he tore his meniscus and ACL and needed surgery, leading to Alyssa becoming his chauffeur during six months of crutches. Despite the ups and downs, they enjoyed game days, study dates, and adventures with friends, navigating the rivalry between MSU and U of M. Four graduations later (2 bachelors degrees and 2 masters degrees!), Jake and Alyssa moved into an apartment in Corktown and adopted their puppy, Paisley, who added an extra layer of joy to their lives! Alyssa and Jake feel so excited and blessed to celebrate, surrounded by dear family and friends, the past 5 years of their relationship and the many more to come!
