Things To Do

Hello friends! We are thrilled you’re celebrating with us! To help you make the most of your time, I (Sarah) put together a list of places you can check out while visiting my hometown. Whether you want to sit back with a nice cup of coffee, or explore the city, I’ve got you covered. All places are in Elgin unless otherwise listed. Elgin also has extensive, free public parking, so you may have a short walk from your car to the downtown locations. There is a range of indoor and outdoor locations, as well as some free spots. I hope you enjoy your mini-tour of my hometown :)

Arabica Cafe

59 Douglas Avenue, Elgin, IL 60120
, (224) 227-7192

I was a barista here for two years while attending Elgin Community College! Try any of the black drip coffees or a lavender mocha macchiato for coffee. If you’re looking for snacks, go for a mini cyclone or a scone. They do close at 2 on the weekends, so this is a good option for our friends who arrive early or are staying in town Saturday night and want to get coffee before hitting the road on Sunday.

Viator Coffee Co.

51 South Grove Avenue, Elgin, IL 60120
, (847) 380-6046

Try a honey and cinnamon latte

Gail Borden Public Library District: Main Library

270 North Grove Avenue, Elgin, IL 60120
, (847) 742-2411

For peace, quiet, and beautiful views, go to the River Room on the second floor. For fun with kids, the children’s section on the main floor is a great time

The Milk House Ice Cream

230 Reinking Road, Pingree Grove, IL 60140
, (224) 530-3951

You can’t go wrong with any of their seasonal flavors in a waffle cone (flavored with cinnamon)

Country Donuts

3091 U.S. 20, Elgin, IL 60124
, (847) 488-1900

I usually get a powdered cinnamon cake donut, or the chocolate coconut cake donut. The iced coffee is a go to for my college friends and I

Festival Park

132 South Grove Avenue, Elgin, IL 60120
, (847) 931-6100

This park is fun for all ages, and has access to the Fox River Trail, which is a lovely walking path

Pottawatomie Park

8 North Avenue, St. Charles, IL 60174
, (630) 513-6200

This is the furthest from Elgin of this list, but it’s so worth it. The park is expansive, with walking paths along the river, playgrounds, and so much open green space to just enjoy nature. I had picnic birthday parties here most years in college, and they were always an absolute blast

For all the days along the way
