How We Met

Jack and Alexa met when both of their families moved to Prince William County and they went to take their first grade placement tests. They both were enrolled in after-school care and became friends when both chose the “sporty” group for afternoon activities. Alexa, of course, beat Jack in most races and games, but that is something Jack will contest until this day. They both later admitted to having crushes on each other, but they ended up in different elementary schools. They rekindled their friendship in middle school, but only stayed friends (despite Jack’s continuous Facebook messages ;)). In high school, they had several classes together. It wasn’t until senior year that they started thinking about dating, but Alexa was hesitant because they were going to colleges in different states. A romantic prom-proposal and sweet gestures weren’t enough to sway Alexa. For some reason, Jack asking her out in the taco bell parking lot finally sealed the deal and their only regret is that Alexa didn’t say yes sooner!

The Proposal

Jack and Alexa went on an annual Kulick Family beach trip to Myrtle Beach. Natalie insisted on taking sunset pictures by the beach one night, and everyone agreed. Looking back, Alexa probably should have been more suspicious of Jack not groaning at the thought of taking more pictures. They did a beer tasting at the hotel before and the night was beautiful. When it was Alexa's and Jack's turn for pictures, Jack turned Alexa to the ocean and told her that 6 years ago to the day, he told her he loved her for the first time, the night before they left for college. With that, he got down on his knee (his left knee at first, then he gracefully switched) and asked Alexa to marry him. It was the easiest decision Alexa ever made. When Alexa’s dad was sick, Jack had asked permission to marry Alexa. At that time, John couldn’t speak, but he was clearly excited and pumped his arms in the air in excitement. To honor her dad, Jack wore one of John’s polos for the proposal, which made the proposal even more special.
