Ericeira
Ericeira is a quaint fishing village ~20 minutes from the venue with incredible surfing spots. With over 40 beaches nearby, Ericeira has earned the title of "Surfing capital of Europe," and is the only place on the continent that has been designated as a World Surfing Reserve. The town has a relaxed vibe and is easily traversed on foot or by bike. It is also known for its many small family-owned seafood restaurants.
Mafra
The city of Mafra is only 10-15 minutes from both Ericeira and Gradil. The main highlight in town is the massive Mafra National Palace, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Another point of interest is the Tapada Nacional de Mafra, an enclosed wildlife and game reserve initially constructed as a recreation area for the royal family.
Lisbon

Sintra
Take the train (30 minutes) and spend the day in this fairytale of a town. Perched within the Sintra Mountains, this region has stunning castles. Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle high atop the mountain are a MUST for any Lisbon/Portugal first timers!
Cascais
This historic fishing town, just down the coast from the city of Lisbon, is the perfect place to chill out, explore the quaint town and the dramatic Atlantic coast.
Nazaré
Nazaré is THE most famous surf spot in Portugal, known for its gigantic waves that attract surfers from all over the world. The seaside is a fairly small town, but you can easily spend a day.
Douro Valley
For the more adventurous who decide to stay a few more days before or after the wedding. Activities: wine tasting at local vineyards, bike rides and hikes.
Algarve
The sunniest region of Europe and warmer than the rest of Portugal, the Algarve is known for its pristine beaches dotted with miles of limestone caves and grottoes, golden cliffs, and bays. You can stay at one of the beach resorts on the Algarve and take advantage of the many spas and golf courses. Nearby towns include Albufeira, Faro, Lagos, and Vilamoura.
