How We Met

August 2017

Holly and Griffin met at UCCS in the Sport Management program. In their final year at UCCS, they sat next to each other in their Critical Issues in Sport class. On the first day, Professor Harris had students do an ice breaker with another student they didn't know. Holly and Griffin were paired together and immediately hit it off. They realized they were both born in July, loved to travel and had an in depth debate if pineapple belonged on pizza.

Our First Date

September 2017

Griffin asked Holly out during class. The horror movie, IT, was the biggest movie at the time. Griffin asked Holly to the movie and lunch for the following weekend. While they are both not typically horror movie fans, they made it through the movie and now refer to this movie theater as "Our Movie Theater".

Long Distance

December 2017 - May 2018

Only a few months after they started dating, Griffin moved to England for an internship with Everton Football club. The 4,508 miles between them was a true test to their early relationship. However, Holly and Griffin managed the distance with ease. Daily scheduled WhatsApp calls helped shorten the distance. In April, Holly spent two weeks with Griffin traveling to England, Croatia and a brief stop in Bosnia. While long distance was very hard in the beginning of their relationship, it taught them the foundation of trust, communication, and patience.

Our Proposal

September 2021

Holly was a staff member on the Tokyo Paralympic delegation from August to September in 2021. Little did she know that while she was gone, Griffin was planning the perfect proposal. It was a beautiful, fall day on September 25th. Holly and Griffin's friends, Kelsey and Nate, had invited them for a hike at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain State Park. They hiked around the lake and at a large rock that cut into the lake, Griffin got down on one knee and proposed. The location was special as Holly's dog, Sierra, that sadly passed away in 2020 was nicknamed "Bear". He chose the lake as a way to include her in the special day. Additionally, Griffin flew in Holly's twin sister, Hannah, from Minnesota to be there. He then planned a special evening in Denver with Nate, Kelsey and Hannah with dinner, drinks and celebrations. Griffin thought of everything for that day!
