Glad you asked! The first-ever public proclamation of vows for Sarah and Matt shall take place on the remarkable island paradise, Isla Holbox. Isla Holbox of Mexico is part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve, located north of the Yucatán Peninsula between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. So what does that mean? We are going to a small island named Holbox, pronounced hole-bosh in English, about 3 hours north of Cancun.
The celebrations will take place at the beautifully picturesque oceanfront Las Hemacas Restaurant and Beachclub located at Hotel Villas Caracol on June 18, 2022, at 6:00 pm in the evening.
Please contact Sarah as your Wanderlust Zar for all your travel support. She is excited to guide you through making Isla Holbox an easy peasy reality for you!
The Headquarters (HQ) of our wedding abroad is Villas Caracol- the official Headquarters for Happily Ever Elicker on Isla Holbox. Las Hemacas Restaurant at Villas Caracol will host the cocktail hour, ceremony, and reception on June 18. Villas Caracol Pool and Beach Club will host our Sunday Phamily Brunch on June 19. You can find the House of Wing and the House of Elixir wedding parties at Villas Caracol as well as Villas Tiburon during our stay on Isla Holbox.
Sarah and Matt graciously request all guests dress in white or within the white color palette for their celebration. Style: ~Beachfront Formal ~ Beach Club Fabulous ~Bohemian Vibes~ Sun Protection: REEF SAFE Sunscreen, sunglasses, hand fan, parasols, etc. Footwear: Barefoot / Sandals / Watershoes Most importantly- whatever is white and which you are most comfortable wearing! Express your style and dress for the tropical beach setting, keeping in mind a short walk-through at its deepest shin-deep, calm turquoise waters to a sandbar. And of course, your outfit must be fantastic for dancing.
Who Knows! CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL! According to the climatologists, during this time of year, Isla Holbox days are usually hot with balmy evenings, the average daily temp is 91 F and the average nightly temp is 75 F. Ocean temperature: It’s a particularly good time of year to swim in the sea, with water temperatures around 85 F. Watch the weather the week leading up to the vacation celebration and pack accordingly!
You will need to get a COVID-19 viral test (Regardless of vaccination status or citizenship) no more than 1 day before you travel by air into the United States. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight. Our suggested lodgings and wedding venue aim to offer strict safety precautions to guarantee the health and well-being of guests. Covid testing is available on the island. Your lodgings can arrange Covid Testing. Inquire when you book your stay. Visit: https://the.holboxeno.com/blog/medical-services-in-holbox/covid-19-pcr-and-rapid-antigen-tests-in-holbox.html

The electricity can go out sometimes due to the fragile island electric grid. Bring a headlamp and other alternative light sources for your nighttime safety. Pro Tip: Don't be a Darkwad! "Darkwad: Anyone who walks or rides on the playa at night without adequate lighting on the front and back of his/her person or vehicle."
The preferred method of payment is Pesos in bills or coins. We recommend you access foreign currency prior to travel and get PESES from your local bank or credit union branch in person. You may not have to pay a fee at all and banks often get access to the best exchange rates Isla Holbox has one bank and there are a couple of ATMs on the island. Many shops, tours, hotels, and larger restaurants take cards. It is worth arriving at Holbox with enough cash for your stay just in case the ATMs run out of bills or the electricity should go down. Many hotels offer currency exchange. Bring those PESOS and stimulate this island economy!
There is one cell tower on the island so expect to be disconnected. Plan to enjoy this adventure unplugged and screen-free, aside from capturing moments in photos/videos and communicating together. Cell service is unreliable and wifi is rare, please plan to communicate on Isla Holbox via WhatsApp during our stay. WhatsApp is the preferred method of communication on Isla Holbox. Download WhatsApp now and connect with us. Send a message to the happy couple to say hi once your WhatsApp is functional. We are available via WhatsApp to you anytime.

Welcome to the Isla of Golf Carts! The transportation on Isla Holbox is made of golf carts, bicycles, and scooters. Golf Cart Taxis: The beauty of Isla Holbox is that there are no cars. The island has a taxi-like system of golf carts. Hail a taxi or your hotel can call taxis at your request. Bike: Since Isla Holbox is so small, bikes are an ideal mode of transport. You can rent one for around twenty pesos an hour at one of the shops around town. Many hotels offer bikes included in your stay. Inquire when booking. Golf Cart: Expect to see lots of golf carts rolling down the streets as taxis, personal vehicles, or rentals. You can rent a golf cart during your stay for an easy and affordable way to get around. Walk: Since basically everything is within walking distance, it is not unusual to walk everywhere. There is very little traffic or things going on in the streets so it’s safe to walk around.

NO WALKIE-TALKIES in Mexixo. The walkie-talkies you purchase in the U.S. or Canada, operate on assigned frequencies established by the U.S. & Canada FCC. The problem is that Mexico has assigned these frequencies for other usage and therefore your walkies could possibly interrupt local communications. People who use them can be subject to a fine and confiscation by both the police and the military. That said… walkie-talkies operate at quite low power and the chances of being stopped and having them confiscated are correspondingly small. The Mexican government does not confiscate walkie-talkies because they interfere with official radio channels, so we have been told. They confiscate them when there is unrest with the EZLN [Zapatista – Freedom Fighters]. Basically they do not want modern communication devices in the hands of the EZLN.
Sargassum Seaweed Effect: Isla Holbox currently has a mild presence of seaweed, but that cold changes because climate change is real and ocean currents do what they want. Our Wedding HQ staff remediates seaweed at sunrise daily. The continued presence of sargassum seaweed (a.k.a sargasso, sargazo) on the beaches of Mexico continues to be a concern to many travelers. For those wondering what their experience will be like on their upcoming vacation, we invite you to read more about the problem and how local authorities, hotels, and students are handling the situation. The 2022 sargassum season began at the beginning of spring due to a rise in sea temperature, which accelerates the reproduction of the seaweed. As the days get warmer, the presence of sargassum is expected to increase. https://www.journeymexico.com/blog/update-on-sargassum-seaweed-affecting-mexicos-beaches
