Hans and Laura both swiped right at the right time (or maybe Kathryn swiped right on Laura's behalf, no one will ever know for sure)... After connecting online and exchanging friendly messages about hiking trips and favorite beers, Hans invited Laura to join him downtown at a "Rally for Refugees." Unable to attend the rally, Laura boldly agreed to meet Hans (and 3 of his friends) at The Wonder Bar on E. 4th Street afterwards. Noticing that Hans was totally focused on Laura, his friends soon departed... turns out, Laura's first online date was going pretty well. It wasn't until several weeks later on the third date Laura learned Hans was chess club president in high school (a fact modestly omitted from his online dating profile).

Being the non-traditionalist that he is, Hans wanted to propose in the rain, so he had to wait for just the right moment... after a beautiful warm spring day full day of activities, it finally started to sprinkle during the evening. Hans suggested a late-night walk to Edgewater Park (a favorite spot), and was surprised when Laura readily agreed. With raincoats on and Nacho leading the way, Hans and Laura enjoyed a sweet stroll around a mostly empty park. After sharing a cocktail by the water, listening to the waves (and an Avett Brothers playlist Hans made), and playing fetch with Nacho - Laura thought it was time to walk home, but Hans had other plans. After bending over to pet Nacho, Hans got down on his knee and proposed in the rain - demonstrating his belief that even rainy days are beautiful and there are reasons to smile in every weather.
