We're one of those eHarmony success stories. After a few messages and a phone call, Gus knew he wanted to meet Lindsey. And, it didn't take Lindsey long to be swept off her feet. Our first date was at Ember in Arroyo Grande. After a fantastic dinner, without trying the quail, we went into extra innings at Grover Beach. Once we arrived at the beach, Gus created a fire and they stayed there till late. But it wasn't all that romantic, we constantly moved around the fire trying to escape the smoke, thanks to the wonderful Central Coast wind. We followed up that night with breakfast at Kay's Orcutt Country Kitchen, a special place for Lindsey. Following that weekend, we spent nearly every weekend together. We've had many adventures since that first date, including spending Independence Day in Santa Barbara, driving to Rocky Point, exploring Downtown LA, attending the LA Coffee Festival and LA Taco Festival, visiting the Getty, going to Gus's first NFL game at the Coliseum to see the Packers play the Rams, seeing the Cambria Lights and traveling to Arkansas, Baltimore and Phoenix. God has been the perfect author of our love story. He has guided us our entire lives to bring us together. We are very thankful for the wisdom our family and friends have passed along to us. And, we are very grateful to begin our lives together with God, family and friends. Our love story does not end here; God is not done writing but just the first chapter.
After much prayer, counsel and planning, the weekend finally came. And, it was a good thing because the ring was burning a hole in my pocket. I tried to play it cool and act normally, but maybe we men are not as sneaky as we think. Lindsey might have had an idea something was going on. I used our seventh month anniversary as an excuse to recreate our first date. Little did Lindsey know, my coworker, Brian, and his girlfriend were already getting things ready for them at the beach. I wanted to get to dinner as soon as it opened to be able to make the sunset, which was at 5:25pm. With the thought an hour would be enough time for dinner, we arrived at Ember little after opening, 4:00pm. While waiting for food, we had a recap of the last seven months, how our lives have changed since then. I thought Lindsey was on to me. Thankfully she wasn't. The food took nearly an hour to be served, meanwhile I was sweating bullets because of the tight schedule. After quickly eating, we made it to the beach with only moments to spare before the sun set. As we were walking towards our setup, Lindsey ran into friends, unexpectedly. This caused even more stress for me to make it to the spot as the sun was setting. But after only a few minutes of catching up, we were back on our way. Following a few questions from Lindsey asking where are we going to setup camp, we arrived at the sight Brian laid out for us. All prepared was a campfire with a food and drinks; a blanket with roses; candy laid out in the shape of an heart and a sign that read "You are my one and only" and, as we arrived, music. With telling Lindsey how much I loved her, I got on one knee and asked Lindsey to marry him. Full of emotion, she only had one word, yes. Just like out of a movie, strangers not far behind us were clapping and cheering. God brought everything together perfectly, as only He can do.
