Things To Do

We've explored so much of the Catskills and we can't wait to share a slice of them with you! Coming up with a single list of things to do is impossible, however, here are some of our favorite mountains to hike, towns to visit, and places to eat and drink!

Giant Ledge Trailhead

Phoenicia, NY 12464

This strenuous, 3/4 of a mile hike is Nat's favorite in the Catskills and rewards you with one of the best views (especially at sunrise) of the mountains bar none. Greg and Nat have hiked this trail countless times and even got engaged at the top! Be sure to get there early to beat the crowds and get a parking spot! Putting "Giant Ledge Trailhead" into Google Maps will take you where you need to be!

Kelly Hollow Trail

Mill Brook Road, Margaretville, NY 12455

This is Greg's favorite trail in all the Catskills! There are two loops - one 2 miles the other 4 - that don't offer vista's or overlooks but will take you through hemlock and pine groves that take your breath away. Overall, this is an easy-moderate hike, but the beginning stretch is rocky and usually wet, so bring your hiking boots!

Dry Brook Ridge Trailhead

7176 Mill Brook Road, Margaretville, NY 12455

While the Dry Brook trail extends for miles, we recommend the first four which will take you to the Balsam Lake Fire Tower. After a moderate-strenuous 4-mile hike you are put on the top of the mountain surrounded by Balsam Fir trees. It's not until you climb the fire tower that you're rewarded with a panoramic view of the Catskill Mountains. While it likely won't be open, you can also check out the ranger station at the summit. Be sure to bring water, a snack, and good boots!

Minnewaska State Park Preserve

5281 Route 44-55, Kerhonkson, NY 12446

While it's a bit out of the way from our venue, Minnewaska State Park has some of the best views of the Shawangunk Mountains, as well as some great hiking trails. The park is huge and spans several towns - including New Paltz which is a college town with lots of places to eat and shop!

Woodstock

Woodstock, NY

Woodstock is a quintessential Catskills town with shops, food, and quirkiness to spare! The town is cute in and of itself, but the drive there is also stunning! And despite what they may tell you, this charming town is not the site of the famous music festival. Doesn't make the journey any less worth it!

Rough Draft Bar & Books

82 John Street, Kingston, NY 12401

Stop in for delicious drinks, good reads, and make sure to walk around old Kingston while you're at it! This charming town is a great pit-stop either before you get on or right after you exit the NY State Thruway! Lots of places to eat and shop!

Mohonk Mountain House

1000 Mountain Rest Road, New Paltz, NY 12561

While you do need to purchase a day pass, Mohonk Mountain House is stunningly beautiful, and the surrounding grounds offer great hiking trails.

Home Goods of Margaretville

784 Main Street, Margaretville, NY 12455

A small but mighty home goods store right on main street of Margaretville. Featuring a variety of local and imported food and gifts, you'll be sure to walk away with something you love. You can also stroll downtown Margaretville and see all the new shops that have opened up the past few years!

Woodstock Brewing

5581 New York 28, Phoenicia, NY 12464

Stop in for delicious food and drinks! Nat and I love coming here and love sitting outside by the fire pit.

Wayside Cider

55 Redden Lane, Andes, NY 13731

While this cidery is a bit out of the way in Andes, the drinks and beautiful drive make the journey worth it! They also offer small bites, so be sure to go with an empty stomach!

Phoenicia Diner

5681 New York 28, Phoenicia, NY 12464

The parking lot of this small eatery is always full, which speaks to the quality of food they serve. It seems to many, no trip to the Catskills is complete without a trip to Phoenicia Diner!
