We met on our fifth date. In August 2020, we connected in the same way many other couples do these days: on Bumble. We were living two hours apart, plus Covid restrictions were still in full force, so our first four dates were virtual. We video chatted with each other from the comfort of our own living rooms, getting to know each other's dogs, dating histories (so many bad dates over the years!), and quirks -- Colby admitted way too soon that he wears safety goggles when he cooks. A few weeks later in late August, Greer's friend Jules asked her to house sit at her condo in Arlington while she went on vacation. This was a great opportunity to spend some time in NoVA and finally get to meet Colby in person. Greer arrived at Jules' place on a Thursday afternoon, planning to meet Colby for dinner at 7. However, while making a run to her car, she didn't close the front door securely and Jules' sweet dog Dudley escaped. Still in work clothes, Greer started an hour-and-a-half-long chase around the apartment complex and the woods behind it trying to find Dudley. With no dog in sight, she returned to the condo in tears to call Jules and tell her what happened. Then she contacted Colby, who was already on the way to the restaurant, to tell him that she didn't think she'd be able to make it as she'd lost her friend's dog. Colby offered to come help with the dog search. No more than 5 minutes later, some friendly neighbors rounded the corner with Dudley on a leash. After letting Jules know (who had remained calm and cool the whole time), she called Colby and told him the date was back on, but she needed some time to shower and pull herself together. So after four virtual dates and a terrifying lost dog incident, we finally met at Palette 22 in Shirlington. Then on Sunday we had dates six and seven -- midday coffee and a dog park play date, then dinner at Colby's.
