Old Harbor is one of two harbors on the island, which are frequently used as a points of reference. Located on the east side of the Island, right in the heart of the down town area, Old Harbor is the main port where ferries arrive. You will also find the primary taxi stand on Water Street, across from the ferry dock. It is also where you will find the majority of shops and restaurants. We recommend walking around and checking out some of the boutiques (Marye-Kelley Decoupage, Diamondblue Surf Shop, Glass Onion, Block Island Trading Company, Blvck Market, Wild Flowers, Star Department Store, Lazy Fish), grabbing something to eat, or coordinating an island tour with one of the taxis.
In the center of the island, you'll see what is known as The Great Salt Pond. It is one of the most popular harbors in the Northeast, and houses three marinas (Payne's Dock, the Boat Basin, and Champlin's Marina). Because of this, it is more popular amongst boaters and offers more casual, dockside food, drinks, and entertainment. It is roughly a 1 mile walk from New Harbor to Old Harbor, but there are also taxi stands available at each marina.
The Block Island Farmer's Market is held at Legion Park each Saturday from 9am - 11:30am, rain or shine. Check out local talent selling fresh flowers, produce, baked goods, local honey, art, photography, woodwork, jewelry, handmade crafts and more
The Southeast Lighthouse is a national historic landmark that sits 200 feet above the Atlantic and has stunning views of the Block Island Wind Farm
Right next to the Southeast Light you'll find access to the Mohegan Bluffs. From here you can view them from the overlook at the top, or take 141 steps down to the base.
The Oar has great mudslides, sushi, and stunning views, including the Sullivan House. This is also where Grace spent 8 summers working. You can usually expect a wait, but can grab a drink and play corn hole on the lawn, or cut across the beach to Shoals while you wait.
Los Gatitos is located on the deck of Yellow Kittens and is an island favorite - they have amazing mini mudslides, margaritas, nachos, and other Mexican food, and are centrally located (perfect for before or after the beach)
For dinner, Eli’s is a favorite! Super cozy and great food - note that they do not take reservations.
Another dinner favorite! The Winfield’s salad and the lobster mac & cheese are a must. Reservations are available, or grab a drink at the outdoor fire pits.
Rebecca's is another island staple with super casual and fresh seafood, wraps, or sandwiches, right across from the ferry. Keep in mind that like a few places on the island, they are cash-only.
Persephone's is the perfect place to start your day with coffee and a Splendid egg sandwich
It wasn't a good night out if you're not at the Bagel Shop the next morning - everything is made in-house that morning, and is a true staple.
One of the most historic hotels on the island, The Surf, was recently converted into The Block Island Beach House, and they have amazing views of the east beaches of the island. It is a favorite cocktail spot of ours!
