As Georgina came to the USA for the first time in her senior year in 2011 as a an exchange student, Brian was starting his senior year at Brebeuf Jesuit, in Indianapolis, IN, where Georgina was set to exchange at. A few words became a few messages, which became A LOT of messages. The conversations became day long throughout the next year until we realized we wanted to meet up when Georgina came back to visit the USA in July of 2013. The 4th wasn't the only day for fireworks in that month as we realized we very much enjoyed each others company, even going as far as a kiss! From that point forward the goal was to find time to visit each other as much as possible. Both of us making trips to each others home country visiting and learning a lot about not only each other as a person but also each others cultures. There were times when the days between visits seemed forever (sometimes over a year!), but we still made it work. Little did we know far we would go. Georgina llegó por primera vez a USA en el año 2011 como estudiante de intercambio de bachillerato. Brian estaba comenzando 2º de bachillerato en Brebeuf Jesuit, en Indianapolis (Indiana), el colegio que a Georgina le tocó. Unas cuantas palabras de vez en cuando se convirtieron en algunos mensajes, que acabaron siendo MUCHOS mensajes. Las conversaciones pasaron a ser de días enteros, hasta que nos pudimos volver a ver cuando Georgina regresó a USA en Julio del 2013. Desde entonces el nuevo objetivo fue encontrar tiempo para poder verse más a menudo. Fuimos realizando viajes a los países del uno y del otro, visitando y aprendiendo no solo sobre cada uno sino también sobre ambas culturas. Había veces en las que el tiempo entre los viajes parecía ser eterno (¡a veces incluso nos pasábamos más de un año sin vernos!), pero aún así hemos conseguido que nuestra relación creciera. Poco sabíamos hasta donde íbamos a llegar.

The year of 2020 was tough for a lot of people, including Brian and Georgina. COVID meant more than normal time apart and traveling became nearly impossible. Near the end of the year Brian faced furloughs from his job. However sometimes you can find blessings in disguise. The time off from work allowed Brian to travel to Spain for the winter months, enjoying Christmas and New Year with Georgina for the first time. This time together only grew the relationship to new levels. On an unusually cold Barcelona evening Brian decided to make the relationship a lifelong commitment. At the top of Tibidabo, and in his best attempt in Catalan, Brian got down on one knee and asked Georgina to take the next step with him. Of course, the answer was, “What? Are you serious? What?” followed by a tearful “YES!”. We enjoyed the rest of the sunset, at the peak of the mountain overlooking the city of Barcelona. El año 2020 fue duro para mucha gente, incluyendo Brian y Georgina. El COVID significó estar más tiempo separados cuando viajar se convirtió en casi algo imposible. A finales de año, Brian sufrió un ERE en su trabajo. No obstante, cuando una ventana se cierra, otra se abre. El tiempo que estuvo sin trabajar le permitió poder viajar a España durante los meses de invierno, pudiendo así disfrutar por primera vez de la Navidad y del año nuevo con Georgina. Ese tiempo juntos hizo que su relación creciera y se afianzara. En una tarde inusualmente fría para ser Barcelona, Brian decidió hacer de la relación un compromiso de por vida. En el Tibidabo, en su mejor intento de hablar en catalán, Brian hincó la rodilla y le preguntó a Georgina si quería dar el siguiente paso en su relación con él. Obviamente su respuesta fue “¿Qué? En serio? ¿¡Qué?!” seguido de un “¡SÍ!” entre lágrimas. Pudimos disfrutar del resto del atardecer, en el monte de la montaña contemplando la ciudad de Barcelona.
