This is one of JP's favorite spots! A bit of a drive from downtown Cape Town but worth it. The views are incredible, the vibe is relaxed and the pizza is amazing. Get there early and camp out!
Why Go: One of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, Table Mountain offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the ocean, and the surrounding mountains. You can hike up various trails or take the cable car to the summit. Tip: Visit early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds, and check the weather before you go, as the cable car may close due to high winds.
Why Go: The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is a bustling hub of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. You can enjoy great dining, visit the Two Oceans Aquarium, or take a boat tour from the harbor. Tip: It's also a great spot for souvenir shopping and people-watching, especially with live street performances.
Why Go: Kirstenbosch is one of the world’s great botanical gardens, showcasing South Africa’s incredible plant biodiversity. The garden is a peaceful retreat with walking paths, picnic spots, and a canopy walkway that offers views of Table Mountain.
Why Go: Lion’s Head offers one of the most rewarding hikes in Cape Town, with 360-degree views of the city, Table Mountain, and the Atlantic Ocean. The hike is moderate, and many people choose to do it at sunrise or sunset for spectacular views. Tip: Wear sturdy shoes, and bring water and a camera for the incredible photo opportunities.
Why Go: A scenic drive down the Cape Peninsula to Cape Point offers stunning coastal views, wildlife sightings, and opportunities to explore iconic spots like the Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach, home to a colony of African penguins. Tip: Make time for a stop at the charming village of Simon's Town and enjoy lunch overlooking the harbor.
Why Go: Roll your eyes and laugh all you want but this was one of Genevieve’s highlights from her first-ever trip to Cape Town. You can go through the Constantia Wine Route to the coast. It’s truly a fantastic way to see the sights! Tip: Get your ticket ahead and get there early so you can make best use of the day. ALSO, if it’s sunny make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen because you don’t want to end up like we did..which was bright red.
Why Go: While technically outside Cape Town, Hermanus is one of the best places in the world for land-based whale watching, especially during the migration season (June to November). It's a great day trip from the city. Tip: You can also take a boat tour for a closer look at these majestic creatures.
