We met on the dating app Hinge! Ben dropped Amber a message reading "you have a smidge of cute on your face," and she made the wise decision to accept the match. After about a week of chatting about Disney songs, Amber and Ben had their first date on Sunday, August 18, 2019. They met at Maude's at 4:10pm for what Amber says was a date and what Ben says was some sort of pre-date purgatory and The Real Date started when they walked to Mojo's afterward. Regardless of technicalities, they both agree it was a promising start to the greatest love story of their lives.

Ben proposed on Christmas Eve 2021 in the Brooks family home (the second proposal to happen in that house!) in front of Amber's parents and older brother. Ben wrapped the ring box as a present and hid it among the other "little tree gifts" traditionally opened after dinner. Amber was a bit stunned, and Ben was a bit choked up, but they managed to say the essentials, and get it on video. It was a lovely moment that led to champagne being opened and phone calls and texts being made to share the news with family and friends.
