How We Met

"Well I'm certainly not interested in being pen pals"

We met very similar to most millennial, career-driven, busy professionals do....on a dating app! Gaby was living in San Antonio while Nathan was living an hour and a half away in Austin. Matching with each other must have been fate because neither of us were interested in a long distance relationship nor commuting to see one another. I-35, IYKYK! Nevertheless, our connection was both exciting and organic. Our conversations were effortless and meaningful. One day in August of 2018, Nathan suggested to meet for a first date in San Antonio. "Are you sure you want to drive alllll the way to San Antonio?" Gaby was hesitant. Nathan being Nathan replied, "Well, I'm certainly not interested in being pen pals".

Our First Dates

Sparks flew. Literally.

Our first date was on September 7, 2018 in San Antonio. We met at a cocktail bar called The Modernist (still one of our favs!). Following cocktails we had a really nice dinner. Afterwards, we hung out at the Pearl District then the Riverwalk and talked all night long. Nathan returned to his hotel but the next day we met for brunch. The following weekend, we had our first date in Austin. Returning back to Nathan's house late at night we were greeted with smoke billowing out of the front door. Unfortunately a towel was placed next to a candle that was not extinguished prior to heading out for the night. To this day, Gaby is known as the girl who set fire to Nathan's house. Yes, the physical damage was severe but everything was repairable and replaceable. Nathan can share the details of his emotional damage and therapy sessions over a drink.

The Proposal

"Wait you want to do yoga with me?"

Nathan planned a beautiful vacation that started in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. We tasted so many great wines and had an amazing time with some of our dearest friends. From Oregon, we flew to San Francisco and made the drive to Big Sur! The day of the engagement started with yoga, breakfast, a hike and a lesson in falconry! After so much excitement Nathan suggested we do a short hike before lunch. Little did Gaby know Nathan had a picnic arranged and setup on a bluff overlooking the ocean. During the picnic we talked about our goals (a frequent discussion we have) and how much we value our relationship. Nathan suggested that goal setting, continuing to build our relationship, and enjoying life should be shared with each other forever. And, that's when he popped the question. It was the best day :)
