Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Maya M Sherer and Gabriel J Thomas
We know many of you are traveling to come see us so we put together a list things we recommend when visiting the are. Los Angeles is huge, so there is something for everyone and these are just a few of our favorites. *not every location is Kosher, visit at your discretion *Parking isn't guaranteed at every locale, so plan accordingly
Volcano Tea House

Volcano Tea House

2111 Sawtelle Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90025

The. Best. Boba. The Sherer's have frequented this Taiwanese hot spot since its opening in 2001. Today, it is Gabriel & Maya's favorite ' Local Sweet Treat' day or night. We wouldn't be surprised if someone does a Boba run late in the evening on this special day, so maybe have an order in mind on the wedding day ;)

Geeky Teas

Geeky Teas

900 W Alameda Ave, Burbank, CA 91506
, (818) 639-2283

Nerds, take note. Get yourself over here to bask in some Dungeons and Dragons goodness, foster kitten showcases, Board Game rooms to play by the hour, merch as far as the eye can see and of course all the click clack goodness in their impressive collection of dice. While you're there, be sure to snag a bag of loose leaf themed teas made by local infusers and geeks alike.

Haifa Restaurant

Haifa Restaurant

8717 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90035
, (310) 888-7700

Israeli cuisine with heart and comfort makes you feel like you really are visiting a little Haifa in big LA. The Yemenite soup is a classic must try, Shnitzel is a childhood favorite and they even have Sabich (eggplant sandwich) that Oved himself would title as extremely "Beseder".* *That's high praise from Oved Daniel, we would never encroach on the savant of Sabich.

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

6067 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036
, (323) 930-3000

We are always excited to hear updates on this museum. Filled to the brim with so much history, the props and costumes give you a real taste of set life from past and present. Be sure to check their schedule to catch a classic film on a big screen with the best surround sound. We did an anniversary dinner at the attached 'Fanny's Cafe & restaurant' and highly recommend it if you are prepared to look past the high price tag. This place gave us some of our favorite memories like meeting R2-D2, lolling under a Ghibli animated sky and yelling curses from the rooftop towards the The Los Angeles County Museum of Art's worst use in donor funding; Levitating Mass*** ***Spoiler alert, its JUST A ROCK

Oo Kook Korean BBQ

Oo Kook Korean BBQ

3385 West 8th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90005
, (213) 385-5665

This all you can eat spot is a meat lovers paradise. Even with our restrictive diets, we manage to always eat incredible cuts for a bargain deal. Our regular first round order consists of Beef Belly, Brisket, and Steamed Egg. Make sure to bring cash for the parking and an empty stomach for noshing!

The Skirball Cultural Center

The Skirball Cultural Center

2701 North Sepulveda Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90049
, (310) 440-4500

This beautiful Museum with roots in Jewish culture is deemed "a Smithsonian Hot Spot" with its plethora of exhibits from all over the world. Our favorite permanent exhibit is the Noah's Ark walking tour. An incredible space made exclusively out of recycled materials/everyday objects where folks of all ages can interact with animals, music and of course a rainbow at the end.

Porto's Bakery and Cafe

Porto's Bakery and Cafe

315 North Brand Boulevard, Glendale, CA 91203
, 8189565996

This Bakery and Cafe is a staple in Southern California, and this specific location shares a parking lot with our wedding venue! Excellent food, cakes and drinks. But plan well because the lines, though worth the wait, get VERY long. :)

The Mystic Museum

The Mystic Museum

3204 West Magnolia Boulevard, Burbank, CA 91505
, (818) 433-7530

A small little fun spot for the classic horror movie lovers in us all. They always have fun collectables, interactive themed walking tours and memorabilia for any slasher and suspense thriller you could think of. We find ourselves checking their rotation of films every Halloween and adore the passion put into this cult classic museum and shop.

The Last Bookstore

The Last Bookstore

453 South Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013
, 213-488-0599

A treasure trove. Every genre for every person, along with music, art and activities. A wonderful place to get lost in that we highly recommend to any LA visitor. Parking can be iffy, and the location is downtown so be prepared to make sure valuables are in your trunk of the car.
