How we met is actually quite the surprise, we wound up meeting via Facebook Dating when it first dropped as a feature on Facebook in 2019. We honestly hit it off immediately and the vibe was positive. So we agreed to a first date at a humble restaurant chain called Roboto Tokyo Grille. Admittedly there was an unexpected wrench thrown in the plans… So What Had Happened Was… Chris lost his transportation. At that time, Chris only had a bicycle and tried to ride it to the restaurant. Unfortunately, halfway to the restaurant his bicycle chain slipped and your boy took a tumble. The bicycle turned from a saving grace to an unfortunate burden. You would think he would have canceled the date, but instead he actually called Fungai and told her what happened. To his complete surprise, she did not mind at all and offered to pick him up. Elated by the offer, he gathered himself together and lugged the bicycle uphill, into his apartment complex, and a flight of stairs to be ready when Fungai arrived pulled at his house. In the process, Chris covered himself in grease and ruined his clothes. A quick change and the power of dawn dish soap and elbow grease got him together just as Fungai up in the whip. Upon meeting the first time, everything felt friendly and natural. Though Chris didn’t know it, Fungai had her squad do some opposition research and thankfully couldn’t find anything bad about Chris. Though Fungai did think she was catfished since he hopped in her car with a whole afro and not starter locs like his profile reflected. The date at Roboto went incredibly well, and Chris learned that he was catfished too. You see, Fungai’s name on her dating profile was actually Mary, her middle name. So, Fungai revealed her real name during the date. Without skipping a beat, Chris learned how to say Fungai’s name without issue. The date went so well that Fungai asked Chris if he wanted to go somewhere else, like a bar. Chris admitted that he had only been in Tallahassee for a few weeks, so he was unfamiliar with any local places in town. Fungai then suggested Proof Brewing Co., an up and coming favorite for craft beer brewed in Tallahassee. Amazedby how well the evening was going, he agreed without hesitation and the two went their merry way to Proof. The two shared a flight of different beers and some small hor’d’erves. Fungai drove Chris back to his place and the rest is history… until the plague. You see Chris got sick… like really sick… like so sick his roommate outright left the house they shared to stay with a friend sick… so sick he forgot to follow up on that first date. Needless to say, Fungai wasn’t having it, so she popped into his DM’s after a few days wondering what he had been up too. Caught with his pants down but ever quick on his feet, Chris explained the situation with all deliberate speed. Fungai understood and proposed the second date. FAMU Homecoming. The rest is history.
