It seems like a lifetime ago. It seems like we've always been together. It was a regular day for Frank when I walked into the Newport Club sad and alone and about to embark on a whole new life in sobriety. I like to joke about how shortly after we introduced ourselves to each other, Frank promptly tried to flag down a woman to get me in contact with female friends saying, "well... I was trying to flirt with you, but I care more about your sobriety." If delivered correctly, this joke always gets a resounding laugh, but the truth is, he was being sincere and I knew it. After a few failed attempts to ask me to dinner, I finally agreed and our friendship commenced with an instant and easy connection. Over the years, we've had mostly times of joy and happiness, but, as many of you know, we've also had lots of challenges and even times apart. But God always brings us back to each other and each time with a stronger love and appreciation for one another, and a bond like never before. I think Frank has always known he wanted to marry me, but it took those challenges for me to truly see his steadfast love and to begin to learn to love unconditionally as well. And while our story, with all it's messy twists and turns, may not look like a romantic fairy tale, I couldn't feel more blessed to stand beside a Godly man, to support one another and build each other up with God in the center of our relationship for all the rest of our days on earth together. - The Bride to Be
In all his excitement, Frank couldn't hide the fact that Valentines Day of 2019 was going to be a special one. Hints dropped here and there, he gave me more than an inkling what might be to come. After a delicious meal at our favorite restaurant, Frank ordered us a cheesecake dessert. While I knew what was coming, I didn't know how it would happen. Much to my surprise, a few bites in, I started to see a message written on the plate in handwriting I recognized. He dropped down on one knee and pulled something out of his pocket as I revealed the rest of the message. "Roo, will you marry me?" it said. "Yes!" I said. And now we get to spend the rest of our days our favorite way, much as we already do... together!
