A beautiful beach for all ocean activities, Kai Iwi is reached via Rapanui Road 14kms west of Whanganui. Fun fact: Larne used to be a rescue lifeguard at this beach in high school!

Jet boat tours to the Bridge to Nowhere are so much fun and the nature is beautiful! It’s about 1 hour from Whanganui. You can also do some hiking, canoe, camping and mountain biking!
The Durie Hill Memorial Tower was opened in 1925 to commemorate the 513 young people from Wanganui and district who died in WWI. It is the best view in town, but get ready for a stairs workout!
Virginia Lake provides an historic lakeside setting where you can picnic or take a 25-minute woodland walk around the lake to see the statue of Tainui, a band rotunda, twin bridges, rose and wisteria pergolas and various birds. One of Larne’s favorite spots!
Falling Creek Ranch is a 91-hectare working farm, nestled on the top plateaus of Okoia, 15km from Whanganui. We went horseback riding at this ranch and it was amazing. They also have beach treks and lessons!
It is the national centre for art glass! Located in Whanganui, a town with a rich history of glass which spans over 150 years, and also New Zealand's UNESCO city of design. They have exciting exhibits and workshops!

The Bason Botanic Gardens (25 hectares) are on the outskirts of Whanganui, on the road to Kai Iwi beach. There are eight different areas within the gardens, each with their own unique features. It’s free to visit and that’s where we will host our welcoming event the day before the wedding!
