FAQs

Some of you may be very familiar with South Asian traditions, and for those who are less familiar, below are some descriptions of a few fun traditions we have opted to incorporate during our reception - participation is voluntary! This will be a family event where all ages are welcome.
Question

Wedding Gate

Answer

This is the moment in which the groom arrives with a large cheerful procession of his friends and family behind him. Traditionally, the groom would be on a horse coming to the wedding venue, but due to the very chilly weather, we decided to have the wedding gate as a transition from cocktail hour to our reception. During this time, we will play Erik's favorite peppy music with his entourage and herald his way to meet his bride in the reception hall. At the reception hall, the bride's family will be waiting at the gate, and there may be some bargaining required for entrance!

Question

Dancing

Answer

The quintessential element of a South Asian wedding. You can expect to enjoy both standard American hits as well as Bollywood classics! Members of both the bride's and groom's sides have prepared some entertainment before the dance floor opens to all guests. We are very excited to see Erik dance!

Question

Badgering the Groom

Answer

It is a fun tradition for the younger members of the bride's side to play tricks on the groom, such as attempting to steal his shoes or other accessories and holding them ransom. The younger relatives on Erik's side are responsible for keeping him safe! Please be aware of Lamia's little cousins, nieces and nephews - they are very clever.
