Almost certainly no. This is a temperate rainforest. Daytime temps are 50-70ish. Because of the sun's position, 70 can feel very warm. But also, even though August is one of the dryest months, it can still be rainy and chilly. So pack like it's spring in the midwest and you're going camping. Tips: *Have a LIGHT rainjacket so you can wear it alone or add a sweater. *Regular hiking or work-out pants are fine for casual hiking. If you're planning to be outdoors a lot even if it rains (recommended!), shell pants will make you much more comfortable. *Have at least one moisture-wicking base layer, but the more moisture-wicking (for rain AND sweat) the better. Cotton is not recommended for outdoor activities. *If you're doing anything on a boat or very close to a glacier, have a thermal pant layer just in case. *Have casual-cute pairs of closed-toed shoes and sandals, and an adventure pair. Fancy shoes are unnecessary. *Don't bring an umbrella or everyone will know you're a tourist!
Yes. But it's not a big deal. We only have black bears, not the more dangerous grizzly kind. And you're more likely to see one from the safety of the indoors/a car than to walk up on one on in the wilderness - bears don't want to run into you either. Some people carry bear spray while hiking but as long as you are Bear Aware, you should be fine. Read this for tips on bear safety: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/bears/safety.htm#Do
Yes and yes! Everything works just like in the lower 48. The only thing you have to plan for is when you're driving way outside of town. Out the road, you lose cell service after passing the Shrine of St. Therese at Mile 21. This means that you won't have service at the wedding ceremony, sorry! You also won't have service for long-distance tours, like Admiralty Island and the Tracy Arm.
Oh you know it will. But beer and wine only! This isn't the Snakehole Lounge.* Full cash bar though. *(See Parks and Rec Season 3, ep 13 for reference)
