We first met in English class and quickly learned that we were placed in something called a learning community, which meant we had every single class together. It was on our walk back to our dorm rooms that we realized we lived in the same building, on the same floor, two doors down from each other. We've always reflected on that time as one of the best years of our lives, even though there were countless nights trying to figure out our statistics homework and days of me pretending to like coffee just so that I could get Dunkin' with Elly in the mornings. On a dorm floor full of business majors, it was inevitable that the two psychology majors would get along and eventually fall in love.
It was a classic Elly and James Saturday - we picked up some snacks, a blanket, and a picnic basket and hiked up South Mountain Reservation. We found the perfect spot next to beautiful pine trees, listened to our favorite tunes, and talked all about our future plans. Obviously, we needed to go for ice cream afterwards, especially since it was 90 degrees that day. After getting cleaned up, James was supposed to cook dinner for me that night and told me to come in through the back yard. Once I saw the string lights and candles along the walk way, and pictures of us throughout the years, I knew that the moment had finally come along. Truly Madly Deeply was playing in the background as James got on one knee and we were engaged!
