Our Story

A Jewish parent's dream...

We arrived at Camp Barney Medintz in the summer of 2013 as complete strangers on camp staff. Despite us both growing up going to camp, our paths never crossed as we attended different sessions. During staff training, our mutual friend, Katie, introduced us to one another, proclaiming we would be best friends in the process – lucky for us, she was right! It wasn’t long before Eli developed a little camp crush on Kara. Very intentionally, he informed Katie of his newfound feelings and asked her not to tell Kara, knowing all too well that’s exactly what would happen. Kara’s response was something out of a fairytale: “I’m not interested in dating anyone right now.” When it became clear Eli wasn’t giving up that easily, Kara did the one thing she does best: crowdsourcing. After getting some friendly opinions on Eli, she eventually concluded he was a pretty good guy. Following a few days of camp flirtations, we (perhaps irresponsibly) stayed up the whole night talking, sharing our first kiss just in time for the sunrise. Fast-forward to the end of the summer. Eli left home to start college at UGA, where luckily Kara was already in school (they should change the mascot from Dawg to Cougar, am I right?). After a few magical years of date nights and Saturdays in Athens, Kara graduated and left for the Big Apple. Long distance included two years of flights between New York and Atlanta, one year of Megabus rides between New York and Philadelphia, and concluded when Eli moved into a 3BR/1BA apartment with Kara and two other girls in New York City (creativity is key for a life in NYC!). Following a couple great years together in the City That Never Sleeps (and an unexpected 3 months quarantining with the Gruber crew in East Cobb), our story comes full circle when we moved back to Atlanta for Eli to start medical school. We feel so fortunate to have made our first home back in Atlanta, and we are so excited to share the life we’ve built in our hometown with y'all. K + E
