Question

Covid-19 Safety

Answer

As you may have heard, Covid-19 is experiencing a new surge. And there have been many examples of weddings which result in a spread of this illness to guests. To best protect yourself and others, and to keep the party going, we recommend getting the latest booster prior to your arrival. The following site will help you find the closest location near you: https://www.vaccines.gov/

Question

What's the dress code for the wedding?

Answer

Disco. Chic. Eleganza. No, it's not a costume party. Think swanky cocktail attire with an element of fun. Feel free to incorporate color, sequins, and flair. A modern, elegant take on Studio 54's golden era of disco elegance. Check out our "look board" for some outfit inspiration: https://pin.it/6kAT88R

Question

What's the food and drink situation at the wedding?

Answer

We will have passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour (open bar, baby!) immediately after the ceremony. There will be a seated dinner and dessert at the reception. The open bar will continue until the end of the night (11:30pm).

Question

Does the wedding venue have parking?

Answer

There is some street parking near the venue and a QuikPark garage located at 365 Bond Street, which is approximately a four (4) minute walk from the venue. However, we strongly encourage the use of a car service (Lyft/Uber), taxi, subway, or walking to get to the space. Embrace the New York lifestyle during your stay and leave the car at home or at your hotel if you can. Finding parking in NYC can be a hassle and driving on these crowded streets can be stressful if you aren't used to it. Plus, if you don't need to drive home at the end of the night, you can have that extra cocktail ;)

Question

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

Answer

First of all, we recommend flying into either LaGuardia Airport (LGA) or John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). We highly recommend utilizing a rideshare app from either of those airports. While Lyft is typically less expensive, we recommend also having Uber ready in case Lyft is overwhelmed with other riders upon your arrival. If you haven't done so already, go ahead and download those apps and create an account so you're ready to go when you get here! The average prices from LGA and JFK to our recommended hotels in Brooklyn are $50 and $75, respectively. You can also wait at the taxi stand for a standard yellow cab, which may save you a few dollars. However, you should budget more time for this option because the taxi stand will likely have a long line.

Question

How do I get from Penn Station to my hotel?

Answer

The train is a fantastic way to travel! If you are taking the Amtrak or Acela train in, you will arrive at Penn Station. This station is in the heart of Manhattan, so it's quite easy to grab a cab once you're outside, or call a Lyft/Uber. A car ride is roughly 30 minutes to our listed hotels in Brooklyn, depending on traffic. If you prefer to save some money and take the subway, just follow the signs in Penn station to the subway lines. You can take the A/C trains to "Hoyt/Schermerhorn Street" for all 3 hotels. Or, take the 2/3 trains to "Hoyt Street" for the Nu Hotel -or- "Nevins Street" for the EVEN and Ace Hotels. Depending on the train, this trip is roughly 25-30 minutes.

Question

What's the best way to get around NYC?

Answer

We strongly suggest downloading the Google Maps app to your smart phone. This app will give you walking, subway, and driving directions to anywhere you want to go. Our recommended hotels are on the border of the Downtown Brooklyn and Boerum Hill neighborhoods, which means they are very close to several subway lines! If you want to head in to Manhattan to explore, we recommend taking the subway. Lyfts and Ubers are plentiful here and convenient, but be aware that prices "surge" dramatically during rush hours or in inclement weather.

Question

How do I use the NYC subway system (MTA)?

Answer

It's easier than you think! For door-to-door navigation, we highly recommend downloading Google maps on your smartphone. That app will give you clear directions for walking to the nearest subway station, which train(s) to take, departure times and destination arrival times. Good news! It's no longer necessary to purchase a MetroCard to enter the subway system. Instead, you can use a debit or credit card you have saved in your smartphone's wallet feature by hovering your phone directly over the OMNY tapstyle at any subway entrance. You can also simply tap your physical debit or credit card on the OMNY tapstyle as long as your card has a chip on it. Each trip costs $2.90. Finally, we recommend downloading the MY MTA app, which will offer updates on train delays, station closures and route changes before you begin your journey! Additionally, the SUBWAY TIME app is a super easy to use option for subway directions and will show you exactly when the next train will arrive!

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

NYC weather can be unpredictable, but its reasonable to expect cool and crisp air with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Every space in our venue is indoors, so no need to worry about rain and wind interfering. If there IS inclement weather, don't worry! There will be a coat check at the venue.

Question

Does Sam have any Broadway show recommendations?

Answer

Of course he does! The best musical I've seen in a long while is "Kimberly Akimbo." It tells the story of a teenage girl with a rare disease that causes her body to age rapidly, so she appears closer to 70 when she's only 16. The show is both hysterical and heartwarming, features incredible performances, and reminds us what is important in life. It recently won the Tony Award for Best Musical. Another fun new musical this season is "Some Like it Hot," an adaptation of the classic film. If you want huge, high energy dance numbers, this one is for you. It also reshapes some of the more problematic elements of the movie to craft a story of empowerment. It's a classic musical in the vein of "Hello, Dolly!" but told through a modern lens. If you want to try out a unique experience, consider "Here Lies Love." An immersive musical about the rise and fall of Imelda Marcos, with a score by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim. The theater has been gutted and turned into a discotheque with the show happening all around you. If you don't mind standing (and dancing!) for 90 minutes, we strongly recommend buying dance floor/standing tickets for the full experience, but traditional seated tickets are available too! There's plenty of other solid options. For a lush spectacle with re-orchestrated pop songs that you already know, head to "Moulin Rouge!" If you want an original score, but still prefer a contemporary pop sound, "SIX" will be right up your alley. Try "Hadestown," a moving reimaging of a classic Greek love story, told through inventive staging and cool folk/jazz music. And obviously, if you haven't seen it yet, you can't go wrong experiencing "Hamilton" live.
