COVID TESTING FOR RETURN FLIGHT As of December 6, 2021, anyone traveling back to the United States from any foreign country must present a negative covid test taken 1 day prior to flight departure. The CDC Order uses a 1-day time frame instead of 24 hours to provide more flexibility to travelers. For example, if your flight is at 1pm on Monday, you could board with a negative test that was taken any time on the prior Sunday. Testing and vaccination requirements continue to change and we will be providing updates here as necessary. Mexico has adapted quickly to the changing requirements, and, as a result, we have many different options available to us should this requirement still be in effect on April 3. WE WILL BE ARRANGING FOR TWO TEAMS (ONE SUNDAY, ONE MONDAY) TO COME TO OUR VILLA TO PROVIDE TESTS TO OUR GUESTS. More info about this can be found below under "Can I Get Tested in Sayulita?" ***There is no vaccine or negative covid test required to enter Mexico.

WHAT ARE THE ACCEPTABLE TESTS?

Answer

The U.S. requires a NAAT, PCR or Antigen Test (all done by nose/mouth swabs). Rapid Antigen Tests - by far the most popular for vacationers - produce results in 15 minutes.

CAN I BRING AT-HOME TESTS WITH ME AND USE THEM?

Answer

YES. There are at-home tests you can bring to Mexico and use for your re-entry in the U.S. Your at-home test must be proctored via video. The CDC currently accepts 3 major at-home tests: Abbott’s BinaxNow COVID-19 Ag Card "Home Test", Qured’s video-supervised rapid antigen test, & Ellume’s COVID-19 Home Test. Each of these 3 at-home tests offer a proctoring service at no additional cost. (*Note - the BinaxNow "Self Test" is NOT accepted). Each test can be taken from wherever you are in the world, as long as you can access the internet to have your test proctored. Be sure to order your test kit well before you depart the U.S so you get it in time. Double-check any expiration dates. CAN I GET TESTED IN SAYULITA?

Answer

YES. Testing is readily available in and around Sayulita. We will be arranging for two teams (one on Sunday, one on Monday) to come to our villa (on the North Side) to provide tests to our guests. The cost of the test will be approximately $48. Everyone will receive their results via email the same day. Once I have your date and your email address, I will forward you a private calendar where you can book an apt time and enter your passport info. You can pay online or on the day of testing. If you want to arrange testing for yourself in Sayulita, the main testing site is The Sayulita Covid Testing Center (in the town center) which provides results w/in 2 hours. You can book an appointment online, and the cost is approximately $53. CAN I GET TESTED AT THE AIRPORT PRIOR TO FLIGHT DEPARTURE?

Answer

YES. The Puerto Vallarta Airport has multiple testing locations inside the airport and you can do your test there prior to departure ($22 for Antigen Test; $73 for PCR). Give yourself an extra hour or two at the airport to do so.

IS THERE AN EXEMPTION IF I RECENTLY RECOVERED FROM COVID?

Answer

YES as long as it was within 90 days of your return flight. If you recently recovered from COVID-19, you may instead travel with documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (i.e., your positive COVID-19 viral test result on a sample taken no more than 90 days before the flight’s departure from a foreign country AND a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to travel).
