Travel Note

European Entry/Exit System and ETIAS

Starting in 2025, the EU will introduce the European Entry/Exit System (EES) to automate entry and exit records for travelers, replacing passport stamps. Travelers from visa-exempt countries (like the U.S.) must also apply for ETIAS, a travel authorization valid for up to 3 years or until the passport expires. The online ETIAS application costs €7 for those aged 18-70 and takes about 10 minutes. Guests should apply a few days before travel and ensure their passports have at least 6 months of validity. There will be a grace period for ETIAS after the Entry/Exit System (EES) is implemented. ETIAS is expected to launch six months after EES becomes operational, with an additional transitional period where travelers are encouraged but not required to apply. Once mandatory, a further grace period may allow entry for first-time travelers without ETIAS, provided other entry conditions are met. Please continue to check the EU travel website for updates on when these programs will launch
