If you plan to fly into Rome (FCO) or Milan (MXP) you can take a train from the airport to Florence. From Rome - Fiumicino Aeroporto or Roma Termini --> Firenze S. M. Novella 1.5/2 Hours From Milan - Milano Centrale --> Firenze S. M. Novella 2 Hours

If you're combining Florence with a stay in the Tuscan countryside, as soon as you leave Florence would be the best time to rent a car to move out of the city. We do not recommend renting a car while staying in Florence because parking is hard and the streets are very narrow and confusing. However if you just plan to come to Tuscany (the wedding) and don't want to catch the shuttle, renting a car is the best option. You can pick up a car at the Florence airport (you will need to take the rental car shuttle) or if you're in downtown Florence, you can rent a car without having to head out to the airport area. The majority of the car rental agencies are located in the area southwest of the Santa Maria Novella train station in the Borgo Ognissanti area.
