Things To Do

There are plenty of monuments to see and museums to visit in DC! In addition to the typical recommendations, here are some of our favorite spots in DC to help you get off the beaten path.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

100 Raoul Wallenberg Place Southwest, Washington, DC 20024
, (202) 488-0400

For those that have not been, we recommend checking out the Holocaust Museum. It is sobering, but powerful. Kiki particularly recommends the exhibit on Americans in the Holocaust.

National Building Museum

401 F Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20001
, (202) 272-2448

One of the few museums in DC that is not free, but worth the admission charge!

Theodore Roosevelt Island

Washington, DC

If you need some nature, head to Roosevelt Island. With a great statue and some quotes from our 26th president, there are a few trails around the island.

El Centro

1218 Wisconsin Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20007
, (202) 333-4100

DC is a city that loves a bottomless brunch, and this is a great spot for an all you can eat and drink brunch on the weekends. There is a nice rooftop patio for enjoying delicious margaritas!

The Sovereign

1206 Wisconsin Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20007
, (202) 774-5875

A gem in Georgetown with delicious Belgium food. A must for beer lovers! To make it extra special, Kiki and Derek went here on one of their first dates after seeing a play at Georgetown.

Call Your Mother

3428 O Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20007

Whoever said DC does not have decent bagels has not been to Call Your Mother! Also worth trying their donuts. This was Biden's first restaurant outing as president in DC: https://dc.eater.com/2021/1/25/22248382/president-joe-biden-visit-call-your-mother-bagels-georgetown

POV Rooftop

515 15th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20004
, (202) 661-2437

Rooftop views of the White House and mall

The Roost

1401 Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast, Washington, DC 20003

This food hall is just a couple blocks from Kiki and Derek's apartment and serves an array of food, including respectable pizza.

Eastern Market

225 7th Street Southeast, Washington, DC 20003
, (202) 698-5253

Another spot in your neighborhood. The farmers market on the weekend is a great place to pick up some unique DC souvenirs.

Don Ciccio & Figli

1907 Fairview Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC 20002
, (202) 957-7792

There are a ton of distilleries and breweries in Ivy City to check out, but we would particularly recommend this place for some Italian liqueurs and imaginative cocktails.

Archipelago

1201 U Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009

Kiki lived across the street from this Tiki bar for many years and it holds a very special place in heart. Particularly recommended for happy hour!

Judy Restaurant

2212 14th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 265-2519

Salvadoran's are DC's biggest immigrant population, which means there are a lot of pupuserias. Judy's is a bit of a hole in the wall, but there is no where better in DC for pupusas.

Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant

1114-1118 U Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 667-8735

DC is known for its Ethiopian, and this is one of the best spots for it.

Ben's Chili Bowl

1213 U Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 667-0909

A DC landmark. Chili, chili dogs, burgers, and more in a casual, laidback setting. Make sure to check out the mural on the side of the building!

Smithsonian's National Zoo

3001 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20008

Head to DC's zoo to meet Tian Tian, Mei Xiang and Xiao Qi Ji!

National Museum of African American History and Culture

1400 Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20560
, (844) 750-3012

The Big Board

421 H Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20002
, (202) 543-3630

Derek’s favorite burger in DC, by far!
