No clothes needed. It is warm... just kidding... please bring clothing... in fact it is required. Mérida is really warm, please keep that in mind. The dressing code is formal, guayabera. For those like us that do not know much about codes: This means for girls almost the same as in other weddings, and for guys light-colored pants and a long sleeve guayabera. In the absence of such, a light-colored shirt should be good.
Mérida is as warm as it can get. Even I (Daniel) would move around without a sweater at any hour. Some light jacket or sweater may be more than enough just in case you are bothered by air conditioning - which is much more moderate than in USA.
Good news! We are going to coordinate some shuttles from one or two hotels around the downtown zone. (More information coming soon...) However, more good news. If none of those shuttles work, taxis in Mérida are crazy cheap. The easiest alternative way is to take an Uber who would likely cost only a couple bucks.
Yes. Of course not every single person speaks English, but you will always find someone that can translate. And in the worse case, we tend to be super friendly and do efforts to understand each other. So no worries, it will work out well :)
Yes, we are very well used to tipping in certain cases. But it differs like in any country. Some examples: 1) At a restaurant: yes, between 10 and 15% depending on the service. 2) At the hotel: yes for a bell boy, and yes for the person cleaning the hotel. However rates are much lower than in US. You can always go higher, but a couple bucks are already pretty good - e.g. in the hotel we will be staying they suggest 30 Mexican pesos per night to the person cleaning (~1.5 USD). 3) Ubers and taxi drivers: you don't have to tip. You can do it if you'd like and since they will be most times very cheap, but it is not necessarily expected. 4) Other services sometimes expect tips. We tip very often, but not too high unlike in USA where it is less often, but quite high.
To Mexico: Not that we are currently aware of. However, it is worth checking again closer to the travel date. Also it may be a requirement if you have a layover for example in US. From Mexico: It depends on your country. However, in case it is needed, finding a covid test won't be difficult. I found a quick thread from tripadvisor with some suggestions in the area - https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g150811-i426-k13464226-Rapid_Covid_test_in_Merida-Merida_Yucatan_Peninsula.html Otherwise we will try to include more information closer to the date!
