Here are some suggestions if you're looking for things to do around town before the big shindig!

Coffee or Breakfast

- The By and By: simple breakfast and sandwich lunch options - Crucible Coffee Roasters - Starbucks - Serendipity Java Bar and Eatery: hearty breakfast sandwiches - Reunion Bakery (weekends only): Excellent croissants and quiche - Cranberry's Grocery and Eatery : healthy breakfast options - Vic's Eats - Farmhaus Coffee Co. : yummy and healthy breakfast/lunch (lighter options) - The French Press - Zynodoa: Brunch on weekends!

Bakeries

- Magdalena: variety of baked goods and empanadas (only open Fri-Sun) - Giancarlo - Fine European Pastries: Italian baker, cute shop (Fri - Sat, pick-up only) - Miller's Bakery: Mennonite owned - amazing cinnamon rolls

Lunch

Dinner

- The Shack $$$: fine dining, reservation required - Zynodoa $$$: fine dining, unique southern inspired dishes - Aioli $$$: Tapas style, Mediterranean cuisine - Mill Street $$: historic architecture - Byers St. Bistro $$ - Marino's Lunch $$: good burgers, nice outside patio, live music during the week - The Green Leaf Grille $$: good cajun dishes - The River Burger Bar $$: dive bar atmosphere, delicious - Thai Staunton $$: parking lot is almost always full if that gives you an idea of how good it is - Depot Grille $$ - Massaki Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar $$$: hibachi and sushi - both incredible and large portions - Chicano Boy Taco $$: order inside and can sit outside - Baja Bean Co. $$: bar in back

Views and Hikes

- The Blackburn Inn Cupola: view of the city of Staunton, cool historic architecture and atmosphere - Betsy Bell Park Observatory: can park at the bottom and walk up the trail (looks like a dirt road) or can drive up to the top - tough driving terrain and very narrow - Sears Hill Bridge: view of Staunton - Breweries and Vineyards in the valley: look at brewery/vineyard section for more - Crabtree Falls: 50 minute drive, natural waterfall, 2.5 mile hike (moderate/hard climb) - Skyline Drive: 20 minute drive, lots of scenic pull offs on the route - Humpback Rocks: about a 30 minute drive up the mountain, 45-ish minute hike to the peak (easy to moderate climb), 360 degree stunning views - Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail: 2 entrances - about a mile hike in from Waynesboro and only a short walk in from Afton. Can get muddy if it has been raining and gets very dark so recommend a flashlight of some kind - Gypsy Hill: about 1.5 mile walk around the "loop" - all paved ASK US FOR MORE IF NEEDED

Outdoor Drinks

- The Blackburn Inn: apps and drinks on historic veranda - Marino's Lunch - Yelping Dog Wine (weekends only): gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and cheese plates - Byers St. Bistro - The Green Room (weekends only): open all week but outdoor seating only on weekend - Valley Pike Farm Market: 15 - 20 minute drive, can buy whole bottles and take them outside - Breweries/ Vineyards in area

- Barrenridge Vineyard: 15 minute drive - Ox-Eye Vineyards: downtown Staunton - Bluestone Vineyard: 20 minute drive - Cross Keys Vineyard: full restaurant - King Family Vineyard: in Crozet (30 minute drive), Polo games on Sundays - Veritas Vineyard: 30 minute drive on Highway 151 - Hazy Mountain Vineyard: STUNNING views right at the base of Highway 151 - Pippin Hill Vineyard: 40 minute drive (almost to Charlottesville), gorgeous views, food, and wine - Glass House Winery: about an hour away, unique tropical glass house, handcrafted chocolates - Stinson Vineyards: about 30 minute drive, in Crozet - Afton Mountain Vineyards: on Highway 151 - Red Beard Brewery: Downtown Staunton - Blue Mountain Brewery: Highway 151, nice views and good food - Bold Rock Hard Cidery: Highway 151 - Devil's Backbone Brewing: Highway 151 - Brewing Tree Brewery: Highway 151 (where Rach works), yummiest food - Stable Craft Brewing - Basic City - Pro Re Nata: bar - Ciders From Mars: downtown Staunton

Museums/Tours

- Frontier Culture Museum - Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library - Monticello (Uncle TJ's home - Thomas Jefferson): 40 minutes

Staunton Farmers Market

Right in the heart of downtown at the Wharf. Cannot miss the tents set up with local goodies and fresh produce. Saturday morning only from 7am - 12pm

Shopping

- Downtown Staunton: variety of boutique shops - Charlottesville: Barrack's Rd (bigger name stores), downtown Mall (more boutiques), Shops at Stonefield, pretty much anything you can think of is in Charlottesville

Swimming and "Beach"

- Lots of public pools in Staunton that are just a few dollars to get into (Gypsy Hill Park, Montgomery Hall Park) - Lake Sherando: have to pay for a day pass to get into the park - Panther Falls: about an hour away, natural waterfall - Lake Anna State Park
