While the situation is evolving and we do not know yet how the Italian health authorities will act this summer, we need to make sure to protect everyone involved, with special attention to the people at risk (like Alberto's grandparents). As of January 2022, you need to be vaccinated, have proof of negative test within 48hrs, or have recovered from Covid in the last 6 months to be in public spaces like restaurants, trains, bars, museums, etc. The Italian police enforce these policies. In light of this consideration, we ask all our guests to be able to provide proof of AT LEAST one of the following: 1. Be fully vaccinated and/or boosted 2. Be able to provide proof of negative test within the past 48 hours 3. Recovered from Covid-19 in the last 6 months Thank you for taking the necessary precautions. If you are staying in Udine, you can get around the city on foot or using the bus, but if you want to visit different parts of the region, you might be limited by public transportation. There are some trains that can get you to Gemona, Tarvisio, Cividale del Friuli, Gorizia, Venezia, Austria, etc. If you want to get to other locations, like Lignano, Grado, San Daniele, etc. there are some regional buses operated by SAF. Yet, if you have limited time, and you want to explore as much as possible, we suggest renting a car either from the airport or from Udine, so you can be flexible. Either way, basically all car-rentals, trains, and buses, are concentrated by the train station in Via Europa Unita, 33100, Udine.
The region is not very touristy and offers many affordable options, from hotels to Airbnb. In the TRAVEL section, we suggest some hotels near the center of Udine, walking distance from the main attractions and the transportation hubs. There are also some cute farm-stays near the wedding venue. Of course, if you have a car, you will have more options to choose from. If you have doubts or specific questions, do not hesitate and ask us.
Of course, depends on the airport. Usually, there are shuttles that get you from your airport to the closest train station, where you can take a train to Udine. Also, you could rent a car directly at the airport to be more flexible. Be mindful that in Italy, highways have tolls (autostrada - green signals), while regional roads are free (Strada Statale - blue signals).
Semiformal. Weather permitting, our wedding will be held entirely outside, so be mindful of sun exposure and comfortable footwear for walking on gravel paths and grass. Also, July in Udine tends to be hot and buggy with the occasional thunderstorm. We would recommend bringing a thin top layer just in case.
As you can see in the Things To Do section, Friuli offers a wide range of cool places to check out while you're there. If you want to experience the best of what the region has to offer, we would recommend spending about 5 days. Our general recommendation for those who are just planning to attend the wedding would be to stay Friday, July 8th through Sunday, July 10th. On the Schedule page, we've listed a few things that we have planned for the days leading up to the wedding, feel free to join!
If you have a car, there is ample parking at the venue. If you are car-less AND are staying in Udine, we are planning on organizing a shuttle that will take you to the venue and back. Keep in mind that in Italy, Uber and Lyft are not present because of strong unionization by cab-drivers.
