Location

Bald Head Island is located at the southernmost cape of North Carolina, Cape Fear where the Cape Fear River empties out into the Atlantic Ocean. A 20-minute passenger ferry ride transports you from the ferry terminal at Deep Point Marina in Southport, N.C. to the harbor at Bald Head Island.  In order to take in the full experience that Bald Head Island offers, we encourage you to spend the weekend on the island. For information on how to get to the island, please see below for a listing of various rental home agencies, B&B's and hotels.

Flights

Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is the closest airport to the island and is approximately a 40 minute drive to Deep Point Marina. Taxis, Uber, and rental car agencies are all available for transport from Wilmington International to Deep Point Marina. Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is 1.5 hours away from the marina and offers the same ground transportation as Wilmington airport. Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is a 2.5 hour drive to the marina but has a larger selection of flights to chose from at a lower price.

Ferry to the Island

A 20-minute ferry ride will transport you from the Deep Point Marina in Southport, N.C. to the harbor at Bald Head Island. Plan to arrive at the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes before your planned departure time to allow enough time to drop off your luggage, park your vehicle and purchase your ferry tickets. Ferries leave the mainland on the hour and leave the island on the half-hour, from 7 A.M - 10:30 P.M, most nights. Ferry tickets are $23 for adults, $12 for children ages 3 - 12 and free for children ages 2 and under. Please click on the website link below to view the full ferry schedule. When you purchase your tickets, you will receive (2) tickets per person. One is for the ride to the island on whichever day/time you decide to use it. The 2nd ticket is for your return trip for whichever date/time you decide to come home.

Tram Reservations

Upon arriving to the island, you will hop on a tram to your weekend accommodations. Tram rides can be reserved and we recommend doing this as soon as you have your housing for the weekend booked. We suggest booking your tram rides for your arrival as well as your departure as soon as you're able. You can do this by calling the number listed below.  All tram rides are included with the price of a ferry ticket. Since, there are no vehicles on the island, a tram is required for you to get between your accommodations on the island and the ferry terminal. Tram Phone Number: 910.457.5003

Transportation on the Island

Although most rental homes come with golf carts to use during your stay, golf carts and bikes can also be rented once you are on the island. If you’re coming to the island just for the day and want to take the scenic route around the island prior to the wedding, you can rent a golf cart by the hour or by the day from Cary Cart Company. Accomodations on the Island

Bald Head Island is truly a unique place to visit and stay. There are no hotels on the island, but there are hundreds of vacation rental homes you can secure through the agencies listed below. All homes come with at least 1 golf cart but many of the larger homes that sleep more than 6 guests will come with two golf carts.
