The H10 Madison hotel is centrally located in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. We recommend exploring the area on foot, as there are many attractions just a short walk from the hotel. Taxis and Ubers are easy to come by in Barcelona, but they can get expensive. Public transportation is inexpensive and very reliable in Barcelona, so we encourage you to take the metro or buses whenever possible. The metro in Barcelona operates from 5 am until midnight Monday through Thursday and until 2 am on Fridays. On Saturdays (and public holidays), the metro runs 24 hours a day until Sunday at midnight. Google Maps works quite well in Barcelona and is a great tool for getting around. However, please be sure to look up your route before leaving the hotel (or other area with reliable WiFi). Your cellular data plan may not work in Spain, so we encourage you to contact your phone carrier for more information or purchase a prepaid e-SIM before your trip (we've used Airalo in the past).
Although most locals in Barcelona prefer to speak Catalan (the native tongue), most also speak Spanish and English.
WhatsApp is a great way to communicate while away. Many hotels and restaurants provide free Wi-Fi, and keeping your phone on "Airplane Mode" should keep you from inadvertently racking up roaming charges when you're not on Wi-Fi. We encourage you to contact your phone carrier for more information or purchase a prepaid e-SIM before your trip (we've used Airalo in the past).
Spain uses Type C and Type F plugs (also known as Schuko plugs) which have two round, parallel pins. Most cell phone and computer chargers have built-in converters, so you will only need an adapter. For more heavy-duty electronic appliances like hair dryers, you need to check if the appliance is "dual voltage." If it isn't, you'll need a voltage converter. Spain uses 220V, which could damage standard 110V appliances.
